First country to issue "Avoid travel to Turkey" notice
« on: March 28, 2016, 14:19:20 PM »
Looks like the Israelis think they know something other nations don't.  They've issued a warning against all travel to Turkey and suggested to those already there that they leave immediately.

You can argue the rights and wrongs of how the State of Israel has dealt with many major issues over the years, but one fact is indisputable - they look after their own.

Nothing on FOC guidance, maybe they know something we don't or more likely are jumping the gun scare tactics who knows....

Regarding the FCO, yes - you're right, there is no change and thats the one I'll be guided by (as will my travel insurers).

Got to admit though, that the US consulate web site provides far better warnings etc than the UK does.

I did have a look at the Israeli consulate but the pertinent information was in Hebrew.  I struggle with English never mind a squiggly language so no luck there!

Well, the first country after Russia - but that's for other reasons I suppose. Thanks for the information.

Russia did not ban scheduled flights - only package tours - but frequency dropped by 50%. Now there are noises about mending broken bridges. Turkey could do with the relief of the tourist ban by Putin.

Three Isralies were killed in Taksim, Istanbul in the latest incident in Turkey which probably accounts for their revised travel advice.

I understood the ban on Russian package flights had been lifted which is good news for Antalya I guess.

Appears to be a specific threat against the Neve Shalom Synagogue in Karaköy as opposed to a reaction to the Istiklal bombing.
