You know that the year has just flown bye when you suddenly realise it's nearly time for this annual event.
Question is what weightings do you put on the following and who would your Personality of the Year be.
Achievement in their particular sport
Personality
-
Nigel Mansell won this one year so I would estimate the weightings of achievement v personality to be somewhere in the region of 100%/0%.
I can't answer the second part, it's difficult to think of anyone in sport today quite as dull and boring as Nigel Mansell. Possibly Neil Lennon.
-
I wouldnt call Neil Lennon boring, hes had lots of good fights!
-
You haven't heard him interviewed on Sportscene on BBC Scotland obviously - if you missed the match it is impossible to tell whether they won 9-0 or lost 9-0.
-
i would say lennon has a better chance than ally mccoist ;)
my favourites would be 1.andy murray 2. rory mcilroy 3. chris hoy or bradley wiggins
team europe for the best comeback in ryder cup history for me
-
Phew kevmclean2001 ! I thought for a terrible moment that we were going to have another Lennon post ;D.
I take it from your choice of number 1 that you place a high weighting on achievement.
-

I wouldnt call Neil Lennon boring, hes had lots of good fights!

Which was the point of the question. Should Andy Murray's fantastic sporting achievement be enough for him to win.
-
Well it shouldn't but it won't affect it.
Based on past winners, for Sports Personality of the Year, read Sports Person of the Year.
-
so is anyone going to tell us who the 7 runners up twice have been ???
-
There are 13 actually. If someone had got them all they would have definitely been googling.
Bobby Charlton
Tony Jacklin
Sally Gunnell
Frank Bruno
David Beckham
Lewis Hamilton
Sebastian Coe
Ian Botham
Steve Davis
Barry Briggs
Darren Clarke
Ellen MacArthur

If the award is going to be given on achievement alone then there is only one winner and that is Bradley Wiggins!!! A fantastic achievement and totally Drug free!!!!
-
Steve Davies, personality...

I'd be amazed if Andy Murray was on drugs when he won the US Open. ;D
PS Hope all went well the other day.
