Title: Best Price to Value Hotel in Calis
Post by: Scunner on September 03, 2017, 20:19:48 PM
I'd be interested to hear opinions on this  :)

Obviously the more expensive the hotel, the better it is likely to be. And I like an expensive hotel. But I also love a cheaper but great value for money hotel. We stayed at the Yacht Boutique Hotel for a few days this year - fabulous. But we then moved down to the Area on Calis prom - one week there is cheaper than 3 days at the YB Hotel - and I enjoyed the value for money as much as I enjoyed the quality Yacht Boutique.

So quality/£ - what are your favourites?

We have only stayed at Letoon, The Oykun, Nevada Su and Grand Vizon all of which are the the lower /£ range.

For me, for and the present Mrs H where we stay only needs to be in a location we are happy with, have a good pool, be clean throughout, and be somewhere where we can chill out (no kids) and have a decent breakfast.

Far more important is how we can get interact with the staff. That being the criteria, Letoon (in the past) and The Oykun would get our vote.

PS We prefer to take an apartment these days.

After a number of years of having a place in Calis (and feeling we needed to go there rather than a hotel in Calis, or come to that Spain, Portugal etc   :) ) we do enjoy a hotel, no cleaning, breakfast made by someone else and ready when you need it.

I would say that even with the new upstarts in Fethiye - like the Yacht Classic, Yacht Boutique (and when you are out in Fethiye, waitresses serving you who can't help but ask where you are staying give a stunning shocked expression when you say you are staying at the Yacht) - I would say...

The best quality hotel we have ever stayed in, in the Fethiye area is the Ece Saray by miles

The best quality hotel we have ever stayed in, in Calis Beach is the Hotel Delta by miles

The best VALUE hotel is so much harder

A tie between

The ManasPark 2014 B&B
The Oykun (various) B&B
The Area 2017 B&Olives

....(and when you are out in Fethiye, waitresses.............

My recollection is that there were very few waitresses when we first went, staff in restaurants were predominately male.

PS The exception being the glorious Nevra of course   :)

That is indeed very true.

Waiting staff were male and there was a hierarchy - hose down floor guy - ashtray empty guy - barman - order taker - food bringer - food distributor - I am the boss (several for this accolade).

But seriously, when we stayed at the Yacht Boutique but out and about in town, waitresses nearly dropped their menus when we said we were there. "Rich people stay there" - "yes, and us"...

Praise be that it was "their menus"   ;)  ;)  ;)

We stayed at the Delta for 6 days in June and loved it, we then moved down the prom to the gunes, different hotels and prices, but it worked out well.  We loved the deltahotel so much that we have booked to back this month.  For us the deltahotel is the best hotel we have stayed in whilst in calis.  Wealso liked the nevada, but felt it was a bit of a trek lunch times and nights, so much prefer to be on the prom.

I've only stayed at Letoonia, Victoria, Villa Daffodil and Delta.

By a country mile, the Delta wins. Exceptional value and perfect location.

Although, for various reasons, next year I'm staying at Letoonia in May for 10 days and I have three weeks in a self catering apartment in  September, I will return to the Delta for a hopefully extended stay early 2019.

Agreed Christie - we love the Delta in every way, if we are coming over in October it is a no brainer - it only becomes difficult (like this year) when we can't do October and we come in July - we simply can't do July without a pool  :)

I remember members on here a few years back who enjoyed the economy and promside breakfast location of the Hotel Dolphin which was extremely good value. Incredibly, I cannot work out what hotel it is now.

But I do believe there is a place or two for a decent quality, truly budget but clean, seafront hotel.

I can understand the praise for the Delta but is the fact that there is no pool a huge factor ?

Not in October :D

We go round to my old chum Mete's Golden Moon for a dip if one is required  :)

No pool at the Delta but the sea is 20 metres away.

In fairness the Delta don't actually expect British bookings in July/August. The owners are our long time friends and they realise that the Brits generally need a pool in the height of season. Luckily for them, the Turkish holidaymakers don't and they are well booked up  :)

Scunner, isn't the Dolphin now Yasmin or something like that? On the prom but still no pool, and some people do prefer a pool to beach.

I think I may be the only one who far prefers the sea.

I guess my experience of chlorine filled, wee polluted swimming pools of yesteryear still figure heavily.

Despite the unknown nasties deposited in the warm, gently lapping Mediterranean, the sea still gets my vote.

I'm happy with the sea, but after nearly 20 years of Calis loving I openly confess I have rarely entered the sea from Calis prom, and when I have, it is generally upset by a big lump of concrete or some continental shelf two metres in.

The pool at the Area Hotel is lovely  :)

I think so Marina, I lose track - we prefer a pool too.

In truth, the pool at Marina Apartments in Tuzla (my self catering esape) is like swimming in bottled water. No "chloriney" smell and it has crystal clear water. It's a bit blooming cold on entry but after a few minutes it's joyous.

That said, I am seemingly the only one to have used it. Over the course of the last ten plus years I've not had to share the water with anyone.

Stayed at several apartments but only two hotels in Calis (Tugay and Oykun).  Oykun gets my vote and I'm looking forward to a couple of weeks in that hotel again in late September early October this year.  Not tried Delta yet but it's been recommended by Scunner and others on CBF so may give it a try either early or late season next year.  The lack of a pool would be a downside if the grandchildren were with me.

Happy birthday to CBF and many thanks to the organisers and contributors.  Best wishes and happy holidays to everyone.    :)

We stayed at the golden moon when we first stumbled on CALIS 14 years ago ,only stayed 2 nights due to a huge  family  of 2 mini bus fulls around 24 persons arrived and took over the whole place drinking all day and half the night [ well documented on  T A  at the time it was hell  ] the whole poolside/ grass areas  was awash with water pool jumping from  so we and some other couples walked across to the Oykun  got rooms in the Only building at the time  and its the best thing we have ever done ,.
The OYKUN  suits us just fine over the past 13 years for our main Calis chill outs, its brill  and a great family that own / run it who have become friends since we were invited to young Oykuns  demob from army service and then young Oykuns wedding wedding to Berna.

WE have stayed at the KANN for a late September deal, but its to far from the prom very basic but very clean and a nice quiet pool area,
WE also had a cheap deal at the TUGAY again very basic but very clean with quite a good pool area..

SO for us its the OYKUN every time we go to Calis.

The Letoon.. Perfect position..Lovely owners and a great pool.  We have tried the Oykun but the rooms were very small.. The breakfast was hit and miss maybe because it was coming up to the end of the season..We enjoyed The Rebin Beach.. Lovely and clean and good food.. The problem was that it was a bit far out and we had the main road to cross.. Worst one cheap it may have been but it was atrocious in every way.. Rosary Beach.. You couldn't pay me to stay there again...

Have stayed at Oykun on our first ever trip to Calis in 2009, Pelin several times, Tugay on 1 occasion, Cenk Bey once, and Golden Moon, many times. Tugay was £112  for 2weeks B&B!!! Could not believe that price, especially as the place was clean, quiet and had a nice breakfast and pool area. Cenk bey was the worst, electric wires hanging off walls, broken furniture, smelling of damp, wouldn't take a free holiday there. Back to Oykun this year, just for a change.

Only stayed in a hotel once in Turkey which was June gone.We stayed at the Kaan which was e cellent value, nipping clean, great bar and pool area and fantastic family that run it.Its close to our old villa so we are happy with the location as we don't like to be right on the prom, although contrary Mrs A was considering it.Unfortunately as it was our first holiday since selling the villa Mrs was not happy so next week we have rented an apartment up near the Harman which is again an area we know and like.

Rosary beach is good value and nice pool , I normally book through sunshine.co.uk , also ibrahim bey which is virtually next door to the rosary is good value and nice pool with a water slide now I believe , I find the best rate is to book direct with hotel , although not on the prom Kaan hotel is fantastic value for money, basic but clean, friendly and lovely pool area and some nice restaurants just a short walk away, we stayed there in May for 11 nights and are back again there later this month for 10 nights.

We stayed at the Alesta Yacht Hotel in August and we wanted the same spec as you scunner.  We were lucky and got the Alesta Yacht Hotel at half price and we couldn't fault the place.  It worked out at just over £40 Per night which was really good value for B&B and a lovely room.

We would choose this again if we needed to only if the reduction was there though!

Could this topic be re run for the 2018 season.
I am looking as a single traveller for a hotel quite central near the front so not to be walking too far at night.I know the area reasonably well, usually staying with a friend in their apartment near the market, which has now been sold.Renting an apartment for one person seems to be rather exspensive and I could be better off doing b&b or half board with the benifit of some company during the day. There are so many to choose from,I don’t know where to begin. Im not too fussy as long as it’s clean, with a pool, and TV with some English channels. This is for next month October weather has been good in the past.
I welcome any surgestions

Might been difficult given the timescale.

We stayed at Golden Moon this month - I can pm you with my views on that hotel if you wish.

Thank you, I have looked at that one. There does seem to be a lot of availibility for as little as £12 b&b per night even though the air games are on in Olu which is another area I like.Stayed in Ovacik in April but prefer to be near the beach.I don’t understand why apartments are so expensive when there are so many wanting £200 + a week.

Golden Moon still gets my vote. Nice pool area, very good location and reasonably priced. Tradition Turkish syle breakfasts, snack available throughout the day and drinks priced fairly. I also like the Oykun, but need to be up early for a sunbed and there's no breeze around the pool, so I get too hot.

Have stayed twice at the Akkent Garden Hotel,on both occasions very good, lovely large room and bathroom, beautiful pool , good breakfast and attentive staff, and the best nights sleep I've had in ages,a room with breakfast was 225 lira a night in July for 2. I my opinion exceptionally good value for money.

With having our own place for 10 years and sold up, we passed the Harman Hotel umpteen times on the walk down to Calis and we always said we would try it out, even for a couple of nights. We have stayed there twice this year and when we are back in Calis we will stay there again, high season £36 a night B&B and plenty of choice at breakfast. Murat and Magic and staff run a great family hotel.

I stayed at the Mara Hotel on 504 Sokak in the Disapanser District of Fethiye last month. It was just 20 Euros pp per night for B&B and it put the UK's Travelodges and Premier Inns to shame. It also had a sauna and hamam. Although I didn't get round to using either, when I had a quick look in they seemed very clean.
