Turquoise restaurant Manchester
« on: January 04, 2014, 18:07:25 PM »
Having been out of Turkey for six days, we really needed a Turkish fix. We have generally been disappointed with Turkish cuisine in Manchester as the meals tend to be westernised.
This restaurant dished up the best UK Turkish food we have had, including rice and salad, but no chips.
The chef and at least one of the waiters is Turkish. The other waiter was European and decidedly grumpy.
They are situated on Cheadle High Street, about six miles out of the city centre.
2 courses for 7.50 from 11.0 to 4.30 daily
2 courses for 11.5 from 4.3 to 11.0 Sunday thru Thursday

Sounds good, I was looking at booking the Cheadle Premier Inn prior to an early flight later in the year so this might be just the job thanks.

Not exactly on topic, but your post reminded me - we went to a fabulous Italian restaurant in the Lake District in July - and the bar manager was Hungarian, first waitress Latvian, second Polish; so I asked her exactly how many of the staff (including chefs, kitchen etc) were Italian. Answer...none!

We also went to an Italian Restaurant in Glasgow when over from Turkey doing an exhibition. Excellent again, but entirely Turkish owned  :)

Keith, We have eaten in quite a few Italian restaurants in the Uk,but still think the two in Calis are as good if not better as any we have been to and did ask if any of the chefs were Italian ,and the waiter said none were. The Turkish  chefs can sure turn their hand to all types of cuisine.

Yes and I think Turkish and Italian cuisine are very similar in a number of ways which must help.

After our first few visits to Turkey, we dabbled in our first Turkish restaurant and tried to order and discuss the meal in pidgin Turkish. The waiter finally admitted he was Bulgarian and the chef was Spanish.
And they did not have Raki.
Mind you, Raki never tastes the same in the UK

As an alternative, can I suggest a cafe, deli (licensed) called Jaz Jaz just around the corner. Superb taste sensations from the Lebanon. They do an amazing mezi which will leave you full to busting. The owner/chef is a norweigan Lebanese. Mine host is his English ex cop wife whose banter would enliven any sitcom. Hours are restricted though, but wort a look

Got my quote, unquote wrong there.

Sue has just pointed out there is another Turkish restaurant called the Istanbul within spitting distance of the other two.
Not tried it, so can't review

Just popped in again today for lunch. Excellent. Grumpy waiter and all.
Sue sampled their bottled Efes Pilsner. Not very impressed.

The price was £3.20 for a small bottle. That's a lot o lirra

Istanbul in Cheadle is pretty good, about half a mile from me in UK. Turquoise is good too and just opened a new place in Bramhall, again around a mile from me, so lots of choice here, reasonable prices and both have raki  ;D
