Hi,
I picked this up from aother forum. As I've not stayed in Hisaronu I wondered if it really is as bad as this couple say? Some of our friends are thinking of going this summer as our Villa is booked out.
Comments: This is a beautiful area of Turkey: the nearest big town is Fethiye with a great harbour, market, shops and restaurants. Oludeniz is the closest beach to Hisonaru -- only a 15min/60p dolmus ride away. It is specatacularly pretty, but the beach is a mix of sand and shingle and the sea, to be frank, was not the cleanest we have ever seen (may be down to climate at this time of year). Hisonaru, though, is a bit of a dump -some would call it 'lively', I say it is like Blackpool on speed ! More raucous bars, shops selling 'authentic' designer gear and restaurants serving Belly Buster English breakfasts all day (all prices in UK£s and all 'cheaper than Asda')than you can shy away from -- and you are doing well if you find traditional Turkish food (although noble mentions to Hisar Lokantasi and The Olive Tree)and every one with Shiekh Chust Havaluk and his friends Forfara Ten'r and Cip-As-Cips trying to drag you in. And, oh - the noise! Relentless English and Turkish pop, from 10 am until 2am .... Thankfully the Hotel Green Forest is located about 150m. from the lower, less popular and populous end of town in secluded almond and olive groves next to the cemetery. Dead quiet, you might say. Nevertheless, the hotel is clean, friendly, comfortable with a great pool (despite the pop blaring from the bar) and we had a good holiday. (Brentwood)
-
Yep!
-
PS. Tumbleweed drifting gently along the streets in the winter.
-
We booked for 14 days there a few years ago and lasted 2!!!!!!! The rest of the time we spent travelling by dolmus to Calis and Fethiye.
We stayed at the Hotel Green Forest and found it clean thats about all we can say for it. We had to walk up to Ovacik to find a proper Turkish meal ( a place called Cappadocia which unfortunately is no longer there) but the owner (who looked like Richard Gere) saved our holiday. Anyone going to Turkey for the first time should avoid His' like the plague if they want to experience anything of the real Turkey.

They are first timers so maybe Hisaronu in August is a no no?
Thanks
Stoop
-
I would say so Stoop unless they want non stop very loud music etc.
It's nice for a night out but not for a fortnight.

-
Isn't that what is so good about this area if you are staying in the Fethiye area you have so many places to visit, We are in Ovacik and like Hisaronu for a few livelier nights of our holiday, I think people are giving it a rough ride it is no where near as busy as Ayia napa and Malia etc, Its lively but not over the top you see a good mixture of all ages with something for everyone. we go to Fethiye and Oludeniz, Kaya and Calis depending on what sort of night we want. personally I find Calis the least appealing, find it dreary during the day and in need of a face lift, it is better at night, we all like different things thankfully. Jen
-
And if you have teenagers in your holiday group, Hisaronu is a godsend - my daughter loves it and says she feels much safer there than if she went out to Romford (our local town with all the nightclubs)
Its what makes the whole region so special - something for everyone ... 8) 8)
-
Hisaronu is not my fav place but when we took Larry's children a few years ago - they loved it.
We prefer Calis these days but it is always fun for a night out! It make me appreciate our tranquil place.
I remember the Olive Tree being a particularly good restaurant.
As you say something for everyone.
-
Each to their own for a banging night out or fortnight whichever you prefer, if you are up for loads of loud bars this is for you, if you walk right to the end of village near the ciftlik hotel there are some small quiet bars and like wise at the other end of hisaronu before you get into the main bar street, you just have to be prepared to look. Have to say I am glad my villas in Calis though but we do have some good nights out in Hisaronu.
-
Thanks everyone - I think I will tell them to try and stay in Calis.
Stoop

Just to add my pennysworth!
Yes Hisarönü is like this from July through to the end of September.May/June and october it slows down a pace. For better or worse the change happened about five years ago.Even the locals do not like the change, but as most of the staff are 'incomers'and the rewards (a different girl every night)plentyfull they encourage the worse behaviour and are more than happy to supply fishbowls by the thousands.
I do still go to Hisar (it being my stomping ground) but mainly during the daytime to catch up on mates or check out the local gossip. I do sometimes pop into a few bars when I have visitors staying but on the whole I avoid it like the plague!:(
There are two faces to Hisar, the season one and the one which I find most enjoyable which is out of season.

I travelled to Hisa a few years back (7 in fact ) it was quite a nice place, went there 3 years ago and I thought I had come to Blackpool was horrendous loud music cheap tat in the shops and high prices
not for me
Ron
-
I went their when I was 14, 8 years ago, and it was a really nice place then. I was a sweet and innocent child back then though, (not like 14 year olds are now!) so wouldnt have seent he bar / nightlife side of things anyway, but my Mum does say it was lovely back then too. She would hate it now!
I go there occassionally for a night out while im staying in Calis and it is so different, and so much bigger, than what I remember. Couldnt spend more than 1 night a holiday there though!
Each to their own though.
Jenny.x.
-
I own a place in calis but before we did we went to Hisaronu 15 times in 10 years, all the bars turn the music down at midnight so it does not disturb your sleep, there is a large selection of eating places of every nationality, there are lots of quite bars on the side streets, and lots of lively bars, it has something for everyone I can give you the name of a very good Hotel which is cheap.
-
Sorry - but with a name like 'Karaokemark' should I be taking your advice about 'quiet bars' - lol
Stoop

Puma
Do you live in Blackpool then ?
Crabbit
-
Well Im obviously in a minority but H has something for everyone ;) I like nightlife but I also like to hear myself talk and there is something for everyone in H. My parents in their 80s & we take them to H every June/July-they are not the embarrassring types of older people you see in bars - really [^]They have a great time and appreciate the respect they get in the middle of the day or after midnight 8)
-
Well I live not far from Blackpool and I HATE it, its dirty and horrible,(apologies to anyone who lives there), but I do like Hisaronu. The village is very quiet and peaceful during the day and I understand what some people are saying about the nightlife, but there is a demand for that sort of thing and teenagers love it.We've had some good holidays up there when our daughter was younger and if we hadn't have holidayed there we possibly wouldn't have discovered Calis! There are some good Turkish restaurants just past the roundabout towards Ovacik, I personally think the Olive Tree is overrated, it was certainly poor the night we visited.
-
Best thing to do is give it a try. If you dont like it dont go again.
Tony.
-
I am the only karaoke compere in the country that is tone deaf can't sing a word of music and actually hate to listen to people, having said that as a second job it has paid for a place in Turkey, so you can take my advice. I steer clear of karaoke bars
-
Not my cup of tea either...I much prefer Calis...but then my 16 yr old daughter would luv it..not let her venture that far yet tho
-
here we go again... its time for the Calis ites to knock `Hisaronu` again. We have been here before with similar posts...Hisaronu is Blackpool
we have had an apartment there since 2003, so I think I know a little about the area.... Hisaronu truly caters for all tastes... its `lively` but rarely rowdy, and is not a Blackpool. If you walk around there at night you will find most couples average age is about 50, and generally a nice selection of brits... yes there are one or two `egg and chips` type places... but there are class restaurants there, and many in romantic settings and far outnumbering the english breakfast type places.. and yes it can be loud at night from 10pm onwards, down the main road, but there are some super quiet eating and drinking establishments down the quiet backwaters off the main drag. During the daytime you can hear a pin drop its that quiet.. but here is the real plus we have in Hisaronu...
The beautiful scenery we have around us ( unlike the flat marshy Calis )literally on our doorstep we have lovely walks in the forest on on our doorstep.
Also the temperature is cooler in the heat of the summer with the `Hisaronu breeze`... and the real bonus is we are literally 8 minutes by Dolmus to the georgeous Olu Deniz for chill out time mmmmmmmmm
and if we like 20 minutes by dolmus to Fethiye. So I would say location wise Hisaronu has it all.
Perhaps thats why the property prices are higher in Ovachek and Hisaronu ?
No... we havent a beach ( but then OLU DENIZ has, minutes away ) and its clean .. unlike the beach at Calis.
So dont keep knocking Hisaronu with the `its loud and its like blackpool and there`s nothing more ) mention for once the plusses we have !!
Take a good look around you please you Calis dwellers.. not everyone thinks Calis is Shangri La far from it... like many of my english ( and turkish ) friends have quoted in the past " the best part of Calis is the boat trip taxi to get there !! )
ps... and we dont have any germans in Hisaronu either
-
oh Sleuth - chill out, people have given their opinion and reading through most of it was quite positive - there's something for everyone. Sometimes I think you like to stir up trouble.
-
I am theorising on behalf of the majority of english people on holiday..`generalising` of course there are good and bad.. lets be honest here... the germans like to have germans around them... thats the way it is, and thats the way its always been. We all `gel` with our hosts the turkish people, but if you ask most english people `we mix and socialise with the turks and fellow brits` on holiday.
Brummy Boy... get off my back... your always trying to take pot shots at me... and twist my comments around... you know exactly what I mean about germans.
-
As they say " dont knock it till you try it "
Sleuth doesnt like calis, so he wont be visiting there. Now that is a result if nothing else lol
Jan
-
sleuth,i am not not trying to twist your comments and i have deleted my post because it obviously offends you,but what if i was a german member reading that and yes we do have them.i am not trying to twist anything .
i have replied to some of your posts and never got on your back.you have been more than offensive to me.lets just call a truce.
-
ok Brummyboy no probs... :) done !! a truce it is... :) and lets hope B`HAM , the VILLA and the ALBION avoid the drop at the end of the season... particularly WBA I have footie friends who support them
I also have neighbours who are life long Wolves fans who are hoping to make play offs... so unless your a Walsall fan, I reckon your team must be in there , anyway good luck to them
-
Sleuth you are on your way to having yet another topic locked! Just accept that people are entitled to their own opinions - its a free country for goodness sake! I really like Hisaronu but I'm not going to argue with those who don't, Blackpool is the most visited seaside resort in Britain and I hate it.Chill out and learn to live with the fact that your opinion isn't the only one that matters.
And get back on topic whats football got to do with this thread!?
-
Does it really matter if you like or dislike Calis, Hisaronu, Oludeniz, Fethiye etc.etc. Most of us have chosen to be where we are and all for our own personal reasons. None of us have to go to a place we don't like but lets not knock where some one else has chosen to live or to suggest my place is better than your place! That's what we did when we were six and said "my dad can beat your dad up" :)
-
I agree tribal elder my sentiments exactly... I never .. unless provoked would criticise where one is prepared to live, be it a holiday apartment, or they frequently visit with holidays
ie Calis
But if people from Calis come on this or any other forum
and `knock` Hisaronu,as they constantly do, where we chose to buy an apartment, then I will defend it, and tell them a few `home truths` about Calis.. thats my nature I`m afraid... its tit for tat...
I am basically a nice chilled out guy ,as people who know me will verify. I have no hang ups and I am certainly not a miserable grouse type character, as people on here seem to think... maybe I just touch on topics that are sensitive , and `close to home`. They usually lock the topic after I have said my bit... thats the usual format on here... because what I say is possibly correct, but maybe a little bit too contraversial to discuss further on the forum.
Remember also... like the rest of you... we love Turkey, the people, the climate, the scenery, the culture, etc etc...
and oh yes.... sorry, but football is a serious issue with me...a lover of football all my life.. a season ticket holder with Cheltenham Town FC fighting at this moment in time for a `play off` place in Div2. Just thought that Brummy Boy might support one of the midland clubs that`s all, and if so wished his team if he has one.. the best of luck, as its difficult times for midland clubs.Me and BrummyBoy you will have observed have `kissed and made up` ;)
-
There you go Sleuth insisting that what you say is correct! No-one locks the topic because they disagree with you but because you insist that you are correct and are prepared to abuse members who disagree with you.If you are a chilled out nice guy you will be be prepared to accept that some people will love Calis and some will love Hisaronu, WHAT DOES IT MATTER? we all love Turkey.
As for the football we have a football forum this is the Hisaronu thread!
-
.....possibly correct.
He's as passionate about Hisaronu as we are about Calis,
and is prepared to defend any criticism of it,
as we do about Calis, sometimes even when we know we shouldn't.
I think I said this three times now,
there are as many opinions as there are people,
we must all learn to live with that fact, it's much easier 8)
Tinx ;)
sorry just spelling mistakes(perfectionist):D
-
Possibly correct Tinx? Of course I am correct!:D:Dtrouble with Sleuth is that he sees every criticism of Hisaronu as personal, he loves the place - thats great but other people don't like it - so what? Sleuth you should develop a thicker skin and not give a toss who disagrees with you - lifes too short!
-
May I remind all of the title of this thread ?. "Is Hisaronu really like this".
Stoop merely posted an item from another forum by 'Brentwood' and since we are now on page 3 I feel members likes and dislikes have been well and truly aired.
I am not going to lock it or I will be accused of censorship again but can we let the subject die now ?. Like Val says - life's too short to get worked up about personal disagreements between members.
-
if people want to compare Hisaronu with Blackpool that is their choice, and Slueth people come on to this Forum because they would like to know about other areas, why get it into your head that they are knocking you personally
Ron
-
We have a place in Hisaronu its beautiful, the views are second to none, but we were impressed by the calis community and thought we might have a look round to in view of to purchase a villa, come May.
Hmmm not to sure now! Weve never been but `marshy, germans, snakes in the river etc` i`m not to sure now.
do you get my drift LOL
Tony.
-
Tony, you come and have a look. You won't be disappointed I promise :)
Anne
-
Tony, we nearly bought in Hisaronu many years ago, but by chance a freind took us to Calis for a day and wow fell in love with the place, we have a villa in Koca Calis which looks out to the mountains and to the sea very peaceful, please do not listen to what sleuth has to say as i am sure he doesnt have a good word to say about most topics
Ron
spelling mistake
-
a bit of a reversal there then Ron with us.... we were took to look at several places in Calis initially, plain didnt like the area...but fell in love with our place in Hisaronu and its scenery, location etc.. and mainly cos it was closer to our first love Olu Deniz
Please dont brand me as a topic objector or trouble maker... I just say what I feel, and if it hurts... I am sorry
-
No-one was hurt Sleuth.
-
Hey Stoop
You sent a post to Calis Beach Forum asking what people thought of Hisaronu. It seems that most people on this site, in general and with reservations, prefer Calis. Blimey! I guess you are gob-smacked by this. What are you going to do for your next trick? Post to Hisaronu Experience to ask what people think of Calis? Then you get on to some Marmaris site to ask "Isn't Bodrum better? At least their castle is real". Good luck to you mate - you could be the next UN Peace Diplomat the way you are going. Remember to ask me along if the UN sends you anywhere nice.
Colwyn
-
Well!!!
I wish I'd never asked now! I ask a question to help a mate out (as I've only ever passed through Hisaronu on the way to Olu) and WW3 starts!
Colwyn,
The reason I asked the question on this forum is because many of the members have stayed there in the past and I wanted their opinion. To me it would have been silly to ask the same question on the Hisaronu Forum as surely I would have received much more bias in favour of it - a bit like asking on here if Calis is nice or not.
Stoop
ps - if I decide to become a diplomat you will be the first to know -lol.
-
How things change!! We were over for a month in June. I have never seen a resort so quiet. In fact Too quite for us and we are in our 50's.We are going again this weekend so maybe it will be a bit busier then. If bookings are up 35% then it should be. Unless they are all off to Marmaris that is!!
-
Our daughter is in Hisaronu for at least 4 months and she says it is getting really busy now.
-
I have visited h for 8 years AND FIND THAT AT MY AGE 46 I CANNOT STAND THE BUILDING THAT IS GOING ON. I REMEMBER THE DAYS WALKING OUT OF THE YASAROGLU HOTEL ( BACK ENTRANCE)AND WALKING INTO FIELDS. What has happened to the place 500 sq mtrs of land that 5 years ago cost 8,000 pound now 80,0000 pound come on this is not where the jet set want to live. Neither is Calis by the number of people leaving it and buying else where. You are pricing yourself out of the market. I bought land 2 years ago in Koycegiz at £13,000 for 1000m sq this land is now worth £40,000 WHO CARES I WANT TO LIVE HERE IN MY RETIREMENT ( OFFSET BY DIVORCE PROCEDURES GOING ON AT THE MOMENT ). Make up your mind do you want to live here or are you out to make money. Me I cant wait to leave this ****ty island we call home, I want a lifev change and Turkey will give me that I dont want to eat out 4 times a wek and dont want to be involved with the local Brit society, So IF like me you want to escape cheaper options are available elsewhere. NO DISRESPECT TO CALIS MEMBERS INTENDED.
-
Phil
We have also bought a house and a parcel of land in Koycegiz, albeit not as cheap as you did.
We are selling the house (it`s too big for just the 2 of us) and are going to have a smaller one built.
Crabbit
-
Just to add my view,I have visited Calis and Hisaronu, having stayed in Ovacik,as they are both within easy reach.I personally prefer Hisaronu but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
-
I prefer the Turkish vilages, that is why I came here, not to be a Brit abroad but to enjoy what is on offer in THIS country. ausgal
-
still would seem that strong veiws are evident and a certain polarisation takes place on this subject, me I like hisaranu for what it is, as I like calis for what it is,some times I drink wine somtimes I drink beer. hisaranu does have a great night life and the food some good some bad, good prices and some rip off places same where ever you go If you want to life cheap and get of the tourist map move to northern thailand, flowerpotman the reason prices go up is the demand from people who want what you want a quiet place in the sun, prehaps if they have childern H is better than a village as kids leave home might move to the sticks
-
Avoid Hisaronu - Ovacik is a few minutes walk away and is quiet and paeceful. If you want a noisy night out in Hasaronu it is near enough.
-
Avoid Ovacik .. too quiet.. nothing there but apartments as far as the eye can see , !!! go to nearby Hisaronu! (thats where the people from Ovacik socialise anyway ) caters for everyone, lively or quiet.
-
Hey Sleuth, it's bad enough with the Calis v Hisaronu threads without you starting an Ovacik v Hisaronu war ;) ;):D
Maybe we could also have upper Ovacik v lower Ovacik?? ;)
-
yea thats ok :-) upper Ovacik v Lower Ovacik ;)
but please no `head butting ` ;)
-
"We are the UPPER, we are the UPPER, we are the UPPER end OVACIK"
"LOWER end LOWER end give us a song..."
"Walking along ,singing a song, walking in the UPPER Olive groves!"
LOL :D
-
Love our spot in UPPER Ovacik!!! Nice to sit on the terrace of an evening with nothing but the sound of crickets....the merest noise of Hisaronu Karaoke bar wafting our way when the breeze carries it (which aint very often thank God!) Haha.....not starting a war, love to pop into Hisaronu for a day to shop the lovely shops, visit the market, and have a chinese for a change after two weeks of eating Turkish. Also like to take the kids down for the evening, as its their holiday too!! and of course Hisaronu is so much more exciting than Ovacik for the kids. But when it comes to 10 pm and the kids are tucked up in bed, give me our peaceful poolside terrace, with views of the black mountain in front and NO BAR NOISE!! Enjoy wherever you are - its your choice!! Personally, I would take Kaya Koy as the next best thing to heaven any day - in my eye it beats Calis, Hisaronu, Ovacik etc, but not ideally situated for families with small children. (P.s.Hisaronu used to be the next best thing to Heaven to me - 16 years ago!!! Kaya Koy reminds me of how it used to be back then, hence why we love Kaya so much.)
-
Hi Sue, I'm with you on all of the above points! It sound like your close to us? We are in the UPPER half as well, just off the Babadag road. Just far away from the noise, but a 10 minute stroll into H if we fancy it. Otherwise we choose which side of the main road to catch the Dolmus and off we go into Fethiye, Olu, Kaya and even Calis on rare occasions ;)
-
Then we have the best of both worlds in H
our apartment is at the edge of H...
( north of the village by the forest )so out of earshot of any noise at night
... and quiet during day ;) but here`s the big plus.... shops just minutes away, dolmus the same, and multiple restaurants within walking distance... ;) granted..Upper Ovacik has wonderful views, but for `practicality` our location takes some beating, plus we live in an area where turks reside unlike Ovacik where its all brits. Finally Upper Ovacik gets very isolated and lonely from November to April, whilst in Lower Ovacik there is some life with several places still open
Upper Ovacik 1 v Lower Ovacik 2 ( and no head butting please ) :D
-
Sounds like you live near Ovacik Sleuth, isn't it just great around those parts ? ;)
-
A package holiday persons view of Hisaronu
Our first visit to Turkey was in Hisaronu. We stayed in the Pine Hills and had a great time. It was the beginning of the season and everyone made us so welcome. We were amazed at the hospitality and I cryed when I left.
We got home and immediately booked to go back in September direct with the hotel.
Unfortunately that visit coincided with the twin towers and our son was in New York at the time . It took some time to find out he was safe but during that time the support we were given by the staff was comforting . We had so many offers of mobile phones.
The following year we went to Crete for our may hols and wondered why -it was so flat compared to Turkey.
So back we went in the september and we have visited in september since.
In that time we have seen a few changes but not for the better. Obviously not as many as some of you who live out there.
On our last visit there was only two of the original staff that is now down to one. The hotel is not what it used to be and this year we decided it was time for a change.
This year we are going to Calis.
Hisaronu has been good to me . I have always been able to relax there but I am looking forward to a new place and from what I have seen on this site Calis sounds like it could fit the bill.
-
I hope your not too disappointed Heather, people tend to like one or the other.. (not that I'm slating Calis before you all jump on me) I sincerley hope you have a great time 8)
-
Thank you Babayard
I am sure I wont be disappointed. I visited it once by accident(went to Fethiye and heard the Dolmus guy say calis beach so hopped on there instead)
The scenery is lovely, we are next to a beach, word has it that there is a good selection of bars and restuarants and I know some of the surrounding area.
My only problem is the amount I want to do and whether I can fit it into a week. Oh and having to wait until september 8)
-
the olive tree does do authentic meals when we went in june and it was delicoius
-
we are up the top end of the village Babadag close to the forest... not the Ovacik end ;)
-
Sounds like you have a good spot Sleuth. I think I know where you are, we used to stop at the Dedem hotel which was out towards the forest. Babayard, we are at the top of the lane where the new football stadium is being built. Are you anywhere near??
-
Hi Sue, no we are just off the big hill (babadag road) that the paraglider trucks use. The origonal Hanel Xanthos 1 Villas
-
sorry but hisaronu like most tourist places is loud at night, the thing with hisaronu is they have to turn the music down at midnight, only clubs with special glazing and licence's can stay open after 3am. lots of varied restaurants to choose from english and turkish food. and is quiet during the day. winter is nice as only a few places open, except new years eve when everything opens just for that 1 night.
-
This is the most honest reply in this thread.

I agree DJ Dave my place is in Hisaronu, I like it. And comparisons to other places are best kept quite as comments might offend.
-
Thanks for that comment Dave....I must admit that I do have to bite my tongue against responding to some of the posts on this Forum, but hey life is too short so I don't have room for agression.
Welcome to the Forum by the way. It is still the best! :)
-
Agree with the last lot of comments.
But i do have a laugh sometimes at Shop and Bar Names in Hisaronu, the origination is missing abit:-
"English Restaurant" lol
"Big Brother Bar" I worry.:-\
But the one I think is best of all and really does makes me laugh is the
"Craic House Hotel":D:D:D:D
an excellent SOH.
Any other contributions ??

how about 'The lazy Lizard' how stupid is that.
Tinx ;)
-
Probably no more stupid than the 'Tinker and Budget' and thats a pub near us here in the UK!:D
-
we have Hectors House down on Poole Quay
-
There`s a pub in Manchester called "The Pig and Ballbearing" and a cafe in Wilmslow called "The Slug and Lettuce".

I am sure that this is not a reflection on Hisaronu...could happen anywhere but apparently on Thursday a fight broke out between a Haidresser and one of the staff at Baryumba over an English girl(Surprise) and one of the hairdresser's staff stabbed the other guy who died on the way to hospital.
-
deleted - sorry but that was a bit sick!
-
I don't think that 19 year old boys parents would appreciate your sense of humour!
-
Running to six pages it is clear that Hisaronu creates a wide range of responses. About a year ago if I had read the opening post to this thread, I would have agreed. After many trips there (we live in Calis) we have figured out a few places and pit-stops that we like and the deal is usually thus ; my dearest will wander off to her favourite frock shop after depositing me in a bar. We like the Ata Bar. Then about two hours later we will find some place to eat. So our views have modified with time and experience. We also found that last seasons team from Cafe Soul in Calis are part of the staff in Ata Bar - just passing on the info folks - no axes to grind!Joxx :)
-
The Bar Rumba has been on my s**t list for a long time - in my opinion its a godawful place after about 10 pm loved only by witless teenagers and hopeless Brits of a certain age trying to recapture their lost youth. The chances of being short-changed or ripped off here are about 9 in 10, the staff get surly very quickly when you demand your change - tips are more or less expected and the place advertises foam parties, despite being no bigger than a large semi, noisy music and until last year was banging out until 0500 keeping everyone in the village awake (Now curbed somewhat). It represents everything thats wrong with Hisaronu and is frequented after 0200 by the dodgiest of leery Turks up from Fetiyhe and the 'Winter Muslim' staff from local bars (ie, imports from Instanbul and Ankara) ogling and groping the remarkably few English, mainly drunken girls that go in there. I would be happy if it closed down as a result of this and so would a lot of other Hisaronu lovers.
Believe it or not, its only about 4 or 5 bars that give Hisaronu its dodgy reputation, a clamp down is long overdue.
And if I sound like a grumpy old man, then so be it. Sign me up to the grumpy old men thread, I don't care.
PS, I also like the Ata bar, great location and venue but not the dodgy cabaret - perleeasse!
-
Well said Dave !!! Nah... your not sounding grumpy at all :-) just echoing the thoughts of other like minded genuine Hisaronu lovers... it has to be said !! spot on !!!
We are starting to frequent Olu Deniz more of late in the evenings now..a trifle more e3xpensive, but much more `chill out ` over there, a much more civilised and decent sort of Brit...
The `chill out` bar on the beach from sun set onwards is where we will be found regularly again this September... the resident DJ plays some fantastic `chill out` stuff whilst you sit on your bean bag with a drink and gaze at the moon`s reflection on the sea
mmmmmmmmm dont want to move from there.... but eventually we have to return to Hisaronu on the Dolmus... but we walk the `back` way to our apartment... avoiding all the excessive uneccesary noise and the type of people you describe and the places they frequent.
Thank god we have the option of Olu Deniz at night !!

As for the `dodgy cabaret` Dave from the Ata bar ... I am afraid it gets worse :-( the drag act now from the Ata bar, have now started to walk around the village at night as a group in all their drag gear to advertise their act, and draw people in to see it :-( so its `in yer face` even more now :-(
Also the Restaurant ( and its an open one ) next to the Piano Bar every week now has a vocalist ( bad karaoke standard ) so called entertaining the customers ... he stands about a metre away from the nearest table.... doing his bad Buddy Holly` impressions whilst they eat ???? !!!!! theres worse... he stands almost by the road ..sings mega loud and you can still here him , and I kid you not... outside the Suntrap Restaurant.
Why do the turkish owners seem to think we all want that garbage entertainment ???? Why are they hell bent on making it like Blackpool ???
Is Hisaronu getting worse and going downhill ???? Regretfully I am afraid it is :-(

Keep the faith - sounds like they are moving to desperation measures. One day we will get our resort back!

The Festival restaurant is a complete contrast to what you guy are describing ...a couple of times when we have visited the waiting staff are dressed in burgundy and gold traditional style costumes otherwise still very smart. The menu is varied (no chicken schnitzel-so our youngest won't go in!) the Anatolian liver is spicy and delicious my fussy father in law loves turkish style beef pie with mash on top.
Hisaronu certainly isn't all bad there are some gems there too!
-
Its no use complaining about the Turks in Hisaronu, they are only giving what the majority of English who go there want. How many times on this very forum do you get the question 'where can I get English food?'Jo is right, the Festival is a great restaurant and beautifully decorated, its worth going in just to see the Ottoman light fixture! There are several good restaurants, but there are ones that do a roaring trade in the all day full English!

Sorry, my hate mail was about the bar Rumba ( to be despised) and the Ata bar (great location, shame about the dodgy cabaret). Is the Festival the restaurant that Sleuth describes? I don't use the Festival but from your description it sounds like the sort of place I could get along with - without the karaoke of course.

davewalsh mentioned a "Grumpy Old Man" thread. What a good idea - if it doesn't already exist on this site! The moderators (correctly) locked a Bella Mama's thread when it got a bit out of order. As an idea why don't they simply transfer the combatants to the GOM thread and we can all watch the Victor Meldrews of the world slug it out??
Back to the ATA bar. We spotted the cabaret sign , made our excuses and left. But it is still on list as an early evening nice place for a pit-stop.

No Dave it not the restaurant that Sleuth descibed-I think that might be Perpino's.
The Festival is just past The Fez Bar on your right.

No... it was the restaurant next to the Piano Restaurant..Never mentioned the Festival at all ?? but your right been in the Festival loads of times ... even better in there during the winter months.... warm fire and a table for two and you can hear yourself talk :-)

OK folks I'll start the Grumpy Old Men thread in the Rumour Control section. If the moderators allow it. I guess some lady had better start a GOW thread separately as Men really are different!!
