How are the permanent residence of these areas enjoying life in Turkey? I would like to know their feelings now they are there. Are there any bad points to it, I know all the good ones!! We are considering the move next year.

Last week I was in Calis on holiday. I met so many people of all ages who have made the permanent move and not one of them have any regrets. I was talking to an elderly lady who has moved out there alone, she felt the place was far safer than England for older people.
Others who have moved out with children also feel the education system and general discipline is much better. I have to agree with them all, although I'm not sure if I could be so brave!

If I was in a position to move, I would be there like a shot!  You wouldn't have to ask me twice!

As someone who has been here for two and half years I cannot fault it.
You know all the good things so I will tell you a few of the grumbles I have.
Beaurocracy.........AAAGH everything you do takes forever and a few lira here and there......
The roads.......well you have seen them!!!!!!!! but when you buy a car and it knackers the suspension in months then its not funny..........
You need a good turkish friend to help with plumbers, electricians and things especially in teh middle of the night.......
I wouldnt change my life for anything but really do come here in teh winter first as you will have to see the storms .....power cuts....and the lonely streets.
Don"t be put off but I am being honest..........
BUT remember.....we can sit in warm winter sun in jan and Feb with a beer watching the sun go down..........I love it here.....but it takes getting used to

Good advice Heidi and if I move over there will you be my Turkish "friend" and help me with all the above.  I have been in winter and witnessed all the above except the warm winter sun in January - it was bloody freeeezing - colder than here.

Thanks Heidi
Pauline and I are moving to Calis permanently as soon as possible!
I can manage most things plumbing and electrical - wise, but as for "other things especially in the night" I guess I'm too old for that!
Hope to see you all soon,
regards,
farmer
