Vergi

We find this tax to be totally confusing having gone through the search facility and looked at every single reference. There are some contradicting explanations. One states that Vergi is tied up with refuse collection. Another states that refuse collection is included in the water bill.
We pay our water bill in Gunlukbasi, our council tax at Fethiye Beleydisi and the bank pays our electricity by DD. How is it that the bank debits 11 YTL periodically as Vergi. We both have a Turkish tax number and a high interest account currently making about 80 YTL per month interest. Could the Vergi be our tax on this??
Ken & Sue

p.s Just back checked and ascertained that the quoted "periodically" is in fact monthly. Also the 11 YTL works out at 14% of our interest. Does this make any sense.[?]

Refuse collection is indeed collected with your water bill (Temiz....vergisi) However Vergi has a multitude of meanings Assessment Duty Exise Imposition Tax Dues ete etc, so in the case of your bank it is their fee for paying your DD for you. :)

Thanks  Brian and Alan. Suppose it makes sense but at 4 quid a go :(. We'll have to come more often and pay it in person :D
