Any one had new Sky Lights fitted
« on: December 18, 2013, 10:25:35 AM »
Looking to replace 2 of the metal type sky lights in the duplex roof with a decent system of upvc with some form of mosquito net fitted.

Has anyone done this - directly through a company that specializes in this type of work - NOT through a middle man!

I know of one good quality upvc place just near the Otogar and I was going to use them at our last place after seeing the quality and getting a price for new balcony sliding doors but we moved before I gave the go ahead.

But just wondering if "roof work" is done by a specialist ?

Why ???? I am intrigued.

I actually got up on the roof yesterday and inspected the current metal ones.

We get a very small drip of water about twice a year if we have heavy rain so if we are not here we always leave a bucket under it. Also when we open them in the Summer if we have people stating there are no fitted screens although we have a net at each on expandable metal rods but it means people never leave them open whilst they are sleeping for fear of mosses!

One of the lights won't open as the catch has "frozen" and the other creaks when you open it!

I put sealant all around the glass yesterday but it is clear to me that they will need doing sooner rather than later - so my research phase starts now!

Remember you are talking to a man who went into a Ford dealership in the UK and after looking around my chosen model when the salesman said "when are you looking to change your car sir?" I replied 18 to 24 months.
I don't know why but he just walked awY from me and Gill said "why did you say that?" - "because it's true" I replied.

I like to consider things carefully and thoroughly whenever possible :-)

You may get a drip or two inside but do you know what is happening in that area of dripping to the roof? I wouldn't even consider it. With the sideways inclement weather there, and the quality of roofing the only thing I'd have considered having added to the roof is a second roof   ;)

I had one fitted 5 years ago because there was always dust on the floor when the metal one was there. I am very pleased as we have a lot more light on the landing. Make sure you get one which locks well. We never had leakage. Any established pvc company can place such thing, they make them to measure

Get a quote from Mehmet when he comes about your solar panels.  Mehmet did some roof work for us and he is very good, although we did not replace the skylights.

Ian. You said you know of a good UPVC company near the otogar. Can you let me know the name of the company or whereabouts as I need some replacement windows for an old property of mine.
Thanks.
WW
