It's that time of the year again folks :)
This will be the eighth year with this and it's always been a success so I'm hope it will be again in 2020.
For new members the way it works is that I will randomly allocate each of the 40 runners with a number.
Members who want to participate simply pick the number(s) between 1 and 40 they want. Then just before the race, which takes place on Saturday 04 April I publish the list of the runners and the CBF member whose number corresponds to them.
The price of a horse this year is £ 8.00 (unless you want to make it something different ;)) and the winner will receive a prize to the value of £ 20.00. Monies raised goes to the wonderful Calis Children's Charity. Ever the optimist, hopefully all the horses will be "sold" and if that's the case we can repeat the process with jockeys
It's not too early to pick your number(s) - so book early to avoid disappointment. ;)

Actually, the photos and video of the kids at the school got me quite worked up...I think of how much I have (however little I think it is) and compare to what these kids have, and I am humbled.

It’s a shame that this item has been read over 800 times, yet only the usual handful of people take part.
We all appreciate the free advice and information we get from the forum.
For the amount we all spend on flights, accommodation, meals etc surely it’s not too much to ask to dip your hands in your pockets and help out people less fortunate than ourselves.

Yes, it is quite disappointing. These are tough times now for everyone but for so many of the children over there they are tough all the time :(

If you want to know where the money raised by CBF members goes, here is one example.
It’s the upsetting case of a little girl with a hairy naevus on her face. If you google “hairy naevus” you will get some idea of how distressing this must be for this little girl. The naevus is encroaching on her eye which is then in jeopardy.
After much hard work the 3C’s have arranged treatment at the American Hospital in Istanbul.
The proposed treatment consists of 8 laser sessions followed by a surgery. The costs were always going to be very substantial but unfortunately since the girl last visited the hospital in June 2018, the costs have increased dramatically. The treatment will however be life changing for her.
Each treatment should be a day case each time, unless anything unforeseen occurs.
Likewise any extra medication required will be charged.
There should still be some surgery following the treatment but costs for this are unknown.
The girls first lazer session is booked was carried out last Thursday.
Soul Train and Race for Life have assisted with the substantial costs involved.
So, if you would like to help this little girl the numbers remaining are 2, 3, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 28, 31, 32, 34, 35 and 38.

The 3C's shop has been closed and the latest Car Boot Event has been postponed due to the Coronavirus crisis.
It is even more important therefore that we raise as much as we can with this year's sweepstake.

Just think of all the money you are going to save over the next 12 weeks by not being able to go to the pub, restaurants or even the gym. :) :) :)

Sadly, with the current situation you will not be going out for example for a haircut or a visit to the local cafe for a coffee and a sticky bun.
Please consider using the money saved to help under privileged kids in the Calis area.

it looks like you wont need to think up a way of creating a result for the sweepstake.
A virtual Grand National will be run on 4th April instaed of the real thing.
May be a few extra runners though - looks like Red Rum will be making an appearance!!

But for now and just to let you all know the money will be donated to the charity in memory of Adele Webley, Bernie Teyze's daughter who tragically passed away last month at the tender age of 40. :( :( :(

As I said the total this year is a fabulous £ 489.00. You won’t need a degree in mathematics to work out how much over the target amount that is (50 + % more).
And the remarkable thing was the number of members who raised the money.
7 members took 1 horse; 7 members took 2 horse; 3 members took 3 horses; 1 member took 4 horses; and 1 member took 6 horses. That’s a total of just 19 members.
Taking part is of course totally voluntary but I am always surprised by the generosity of CBF members who do take part but have to confess to being a little disappointed that more people don’t take part.
So a huge, huge thank you to the following who stepped up to the plate to help under privileged kids.

Well, this wonderful group have done it once again! What an amazing result! Your generosity is very much appreciated by all at the 3C's. Times are difficult for everyone at the moment, with this awful virus.
Our shop has been closed of course and as John mentioned, we were given 2 days to leave our storage depot. This was especially difficult at this time as many of us were locked down here and couldn't help with the move.
We are still looking for a new depot in Çalış.
