I remember in the back of my mind reading about how Western Union transfers can result in some scam or other, making it a risky method for transferring cash abroad. If that is correct, I have no idea what the scam is and how it works - I'd be very grateful if anyone knows and can tell me  :)

I'm asking because I want to be aware for advisory purposes, I don't want to scam anyone lol

It's usually the Nigerian scammers who use Western Union Keith!! This is a very good website about those scammers:

Cheers Russ, I know it's normally Nigerian types - what I wondered is what is it about Western Union that makes them the financial folk of choice for scammers?

I don't know if this will help but I have received money twice in Turkey via WU. Once sent in Euros from Poland and once in US$ from States. Only 2 curriencies you can do.

Collected money at the Finansbank - some paperwork to complete but fairly straightforward and no problems.
