Insurance warning
« on: March 17, 2009, 14:31:53 PM »
If you take out health, medical, accident and emergency, travel insurance in Turkey to be fully covered you MUST hold a residence permit.
There is a section in general conditions, on most policies, that says to be considered a permanent resident you must have a permit. If you don't have this they will not pay out.
We found out when getting travel insurance...I was covered but Eric wasn't. They called the HO to check and were told yes he could be covered but after asking for that in writing they quickly called back to say he couldn't be covered.
We have taken out insurance policies that are not worth the paper they are written on with a very popular insurance company here and they are still advertising full page ads, so if you take a policy out ask the question, if they will pay out if you are on a visitors visa and get it in writing before parting with any of you money and get it translated legally.
Seems that some agents will take our money even though they know if you claim it will not be paid out.
Please get confirmation of your legal status in the eyes of the Turkish system for insurance reasons.
Hope this helps save others throwing money away.

Looks as this is just for UK based people not those of us living abroad.

Have also trawled the net and can only find the same company as Firo

WE spent hours and hours trying to solve this problem but did not look into the age restrictions as it didn't affect us.
Might be worth contacting them and asking if the can cover other ages for an additional premium or maybe they know of another company that can.
The problem is most of them only insure you if Uk based and the journey starts there or the price they want is more than the cost of the holiday !
