The worldest tallest building

As reported on the BBC's website

The worlds tallest building, the Burj Khalifa has just been opened - it's 828m high, has 160 floors and can be seen from 60 miles away

"We weren't sure how high we could go" said Bill Baker the buildings structural Engineer. "It was a kind of exploration:a learning experience". I hope he got it right

The developer said that the building's design had posed unprecedented technical and logistic challenges, not just because of it's height but also because Dubai was susceptible to high winds and was close to a geological fault Seems like some very good reasons for NOT building it where you did

Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable going into this building.:(

I am always concerned about building that set themselves up as terroist targets, and any way how high to the fire dept ladders reach.

I was in Abu Dhabi in 2007 and went up to Dubai twice during this time.  It is the biggest building site in the world.  They are using up most of the Middle East's supply of sand(?) cement, glass, steel and copper.  To such an extent it is having to ship all this in from the rest of the world.  Sand(?), my opinion is that unscrupulous builders may use sand out of the desert or beaches leading to concrete that is not up to spec, echo's of the Turkish earthquake of 1999.

The newspapers at the time were extolling the virtues of a planned underground for Dubai, siting the safety systems, 32 motion sensors per kilometer of tunnel!  An underground rail system in sand?????  Not for me.
