Just heard about this now, he always seemed a really nice, down to earth guy, who certainly lived life to the full, such a shame.

I met him about 13 years ago at a snooker tournament in Blackpool. Really nice guy! What a sad loss, he had been ill for a while.

Had a few nights out with him in corfu a long time ago, he had some stories to tell,but being in the public eye never did him any favours, I used to love watching him though, RIP

So sad, a great player and a wonderful character, my husband will be devastated when I tell him. Some of these Irishmen live hard lives when they become famous. It was the drink that did for George Best and the cigarettes for Alex Higgins. Hope he has a good few games of snooker in Heaven.

You only have to look at the lack of personality in snooker today to appreciate Alex's contribution. Amazingly we went past his Belfast apartment today. RIP to another great character.
