Sounds like you got a raw deal....number two would have been the hardest job...especially if you had any pans to scrub!
The Turkish are suprisingly quite good on health prevention...the explanation I was given about all the rinsing (again nothing to do with Muslim tradition) was to remove all last traces of washing up detergent which can cause cancer (something I remember my Mum starting to do many years ago when she was diagnosed & read up on everything & anything she could) - so there is some logic there.
The "Fairy cupboard" is still the best bet I think :-)
