Fancy Dress parties - love or hate?
« on: December 14, 2011, 17:42:19 PM »
I can't be doing with them and need an original excuse for our company "do" tomorrow.
Has anyone got any believable excuses that will stop me appearing like a miserable sod?
I have neither the time nor the inclination to find an outfit now so really need a good line......

If you love them...please, please tell me why you do as maybe I am missing something.  I'm not a misery, just don't like "enforced" fun :-\

you shouldn't be forced to dress up, but looking different or acting in a totally " un you" way can be a laugh...:D

well I agree with both of you Supacabby and Johnboy - I'm going to have a laugh regardless I'm sure.  It's just how to wriggle out of it with the "corporate bods" who will mumble daft things about setting a poor example to my team by not joining in blah, blah, blah.  The same bods who expect a 58 year old chubs to go swinging through trees on ropes as part of "team building" : :)
Did they consider the ropes probably wouldn't hold and if I landed on one of them we would be demolishing not building  :o
A sound response to "why haven't you dressed up?" is needed......

This is how an old mate coped with the feared, expensive and time consuming fancy dress parties. He would make a paper plane like the ones we all remember chucking across the classroom at school. He'd turn up in normal clothes clutching his paper plane and when asked what he had come as, he happily told the curious that it was quite obvious to anybody that he was dressed as an aircraft carrier.....
No cost, no fuss and job done !

Hate it too, tell them the fancy dress hire shop burned down or that you are an individual and you lead by example and not by being told what to wear.  Have a very large drink first:D

Scorcher that's brilliant and I will definitely remember that one for future!
I should have said that the theme is "rock" as in rock stars /  chicks etc or whatever era rocks your boat.  If I could find a link to your paper plane or something on those lines , believe me I would use it - :D
