My cat goes and gets a 2nd dinner next door.  They call him Elvis there.

Cats on average have seven homes

They also catch and kill upto 15 rats n mice or other 'things' per night when they leg it for a couple of days.
Also if its male and they get a whiff of a female in season they wont come back for love nor tuna! Ours hops it for upto 4 days at a time then comes home demands his food then sleeps for a day before going out again.

Our present cat, a female, always stays near home, although she has been missing all day sometimes. However, male cats always seem to stray.  The last male we had used to regularly disappear.  We found that he sometimes went into a local farmer's out buildings and got locked in. Sometimes they find a nice place for a sleep and the door gets closed on them.  They also seem to keep making this mistake.  We used to ring the farmer if our cat was missing for a few days and he would go and open one of his steading doors and our cat would appear and be very hungry.  Also one time our cat came back after two days and his head was filthy and we thought he must have had it trapped in a rabbit burrow.

Our little cat only went missing when it was time to depart this earth. A neighbour found her under a garden bush some 3 months later

She did come walkies with the dog and I. She always waited outside the woods though, as we went in and took a short cut to the shop. I once forgot and went another way home and about 3 hours later Maggie said 'where's Minnie?' 'S*it' I said 'she will be sat waiting for us by the woods!'. The dog got an extra walk that morning
