I think they whole Les Miserables thing has been a complete marketing disaster. It could have done much better if they gave it an upbeat, positive name like Les Joyeux.

And maybe set it somewhere pretty like The Algarve.

I didn't like it no, Can't deny the acting was excellent etc, but the whole singing thing just didn't do it for me.
And it was all so dark and gloomy so I kept dozing off!
And very long.

Like I posted previously, obtain a copy of the non singing version with Liam Neesom, absolutely brilliant (the man can do no wrong in my eyes) . :D

Haven't seen the film yet, but must say the theatre musical version is fantastic.  Have seen it four times already and can't wait to see it again.  It's amazing how peoples opinion differ.     :)

That's the beauty of opinions and taste poppy. We all have different tastes thankfully. I have been very lucky to listen to the Les Mis songs sung by musicians who have actually appeared in the show in the West End. I am a genuine musical theatre fan so for the thousands of people like me I don't think the film version will be that appealing. I will wait until it comes out on DVD and watch it then. If it's not to my taste I can turn it off and watch something else.

As a footnote, for those of you lucky enough to hear Paul Monaghan sing whilst he was in Calis, he is playing the lead role in the national tour of Cats this year. Tickets now on sale so check out the tour and go and see a live musical!

We have seen the show 4 times live on the stage, loads on DVD and just watched the film, in fact listening to the music over the end credits at the moment. We are obviously fans of the show, we loved the film and the professional actors brought another dimension to the story, however, for us anyway, you can't beat the intimacy of the theatre. The film is great but watch it live first.
