Just for a little bit of perspective - this animal is certainly not lovely and cuddly

On the back of this alleged attack (I don't find the story very convincing) there are now hysterical calls for a major cull of urban foxes. I wonder if there will be similar calls for a widespread cull of Staffies.

They are a very common sight in London, particularly at night, but more and more often by day searching for food.
They are now getting so big they can knock the wheelie bins over, drag the rubbish out and then usually fight over it.

They are brazen and are not intimidated by people. They stare you out and wont budge. You can get very close to them shooooooing and waving your arms about before the will turn and just walk away. A quick look back over their shoulder at you in disgust and they're off.

Apparently, they are no more common, its their behaviour that has changed. They do not now fear humans and it is thought to be becuase of the people who feed them.

Ironic really, those who think they are helping the foxs, could ultimately be responsible for their destruction.

According to our local council they pose no threat to humans, i.e.rabies etc.,but if more attack, then they may consider a cull.

They are not cuddly Bazil Brushes, they are vermin.

the strange thing is, the fox got in through an open door which was apparently awaiting repair by the council. Would you go to bed leaving an open door, in London, on a council estate ?

they are vermin.
You seem to be using the term"vermin" as merely meaning "animals I do not like very much". In the UK foxes are not officially classified as vermin. References to whether people regard them as cuddly or not are completely irrelevant. I don't think Tigers or Polar Bears are remotely cuddly - I would run like hell if one of them ever tried to cuddle me - but this doesn't mean I think they should be killed.

Strange, but when the twins girls where attacked people did not believe it and the parents got hate mail.
The problem is that foxes are attractive animals and people who don't know what they are really like seem to love them.  If foxes looked like rats everyone would want them culled.  IMO it's all in the cute factor, unfortunately.
