Skin Cancer? All clear!
« on: May 19, 2014, 16:42:35 PM »
Some weeks ago I mentioned I had a consultants appointment coming up to investigate a raised spot on my right shoulder - I have already had a similar spot diagnosed as basal cell cancer and removed. The original spot that caused concern, and for which my GP referred me, had been progressively going down over the last few months and, by this afternoon, had disappeared to the extent that the consultant couldn't find it. The burgundy-coloured, "squashy" spot on my elbow was diagnosed as haemangioma (blood vessel tumour) and is harmless. He managed to find another lump that I hadn't been bothered about - showing off in front his little group of students, or perhaps just being a good teacher - which is also harmless and is a seborrheic kerotosis, and commonly known as a "carbunkle of old age. A description that I don't find remotely humourous,

No advice is offered for these conditions, no procedures are required, and there is no reason at all to contact my travel insurance company. Which is as well since I think another medical condition on my declaration list might just about tip my insurability over the edge and I'm due to go on holiday two weeks today.

Thanks chums. I thought it would be good to remind people to look out for new, unusual spots that might be early signs of skin cancer and that the good news is that very often they aren't. Also that even the non-malevolent cancer growths should be reported to your travel insurance company.

Thats good news Colwyn. I had a basal cancerous spot removed from my forehead. Its best to get these things checked out, and hopefully remove any anxiety. Glad to hear you're ok.
