Midnight Express
« on: July 28, 2007, 19:55:02 PM »
Somewhat ashamed to say I had never seen this film, it was on ITV4 during the week, 10pm start (so midnight till 02:25am here [xx(] )so I sat and watched. After an hour I still hadn't seen Robert de Niro but I watched on anyway  ;)

As I had heard many times, a horrendously racist film, bearing little resemblance to the truth. What a surprise, an American drug smuggler portrayed as a poor victim in a hellish Turkish jail.

I am interested in finding out where exactly the film ignored the real story/book - it seems to be in most areas from what I have since found on the internet.

Turkish people I know who have seen the film insist that the Turkish dialogue 'sounds' Turkish but certainly isn't - this may be explained by the fact that it was shot entirely in Malta, and next to no Turks would have anything to do with it.
