HSBC carried out a survey of the best countries to retire to. Surprisingly to me Thailand came out top but even more surprisingly Turkey did not even feature in the top 15 and were unplaced behind countries like Germany and Belgium:(

Perhaps it's got a lot to do with the 'ease' of living in the country.  Turkey has got to be one of the lowest when you consider the bureaucracy involved and the way the Gov't can't make a decision from one day to the next.  Or if they do they change their minds 2 days later.
Cost of living, compared to some countries mentioned (eg Bahrain)Turkey isn't cheap anymore.
Weather, seriously hot in Summer, freezing in Winter and who can afford central heating?
People retire to relax, not constantly battle with Gov't, Aydem over-charging, builders not fulfilling contracts, Belediye ignoring residents requests (because they don't vote) etc. etc. etc.
