Title: Fishing
Post by: kayakebab on February 23, 2012, 19:36:08 PM

My dad, who was never going to come to Turkey again after having his shoes stolen outside a mosque in 1957 (!) is coming for his 3rd visit to Calis, this time for a month..

he wants to go sea fishing, Thomas Cook are charging £50 to bring a rod over  :o so he wants to buy a cheapish one here.

a few questions please :

does he need a licence?
where and how does he get one?
where is a good place to buy a 3 or 4 metre sea rod
has anyone got a rod they might want to sell or lend?
does anyone want to go with him!

thank you

He shouldnt need a licence for sea fishing at all - you are supposed to get a tourist one for rivers and lakes but as usual it costs three times as much as it does for a turk.
There are plenty of boats on the marinas that will go sea fishing too - not sure about a 3-4 metre sea rod - a small boat rod will do. There are loads of shops selling rods and kit etc - one on the outside of the indoor markets and another in the streets behind the PTT in fethiye too.

There's another shop nearly opposite the HSBC, following the one way system. For less than £50 your dad could kit himself out for his stay. It's very cheap compared to the UK for fishing stuff.

Or he can kit himself out with a telescopic one from somewhere like 'Range' we took one over a few years back. It fit in the suitcase and got used quite a bit before it fell to bits with rusty rings due to not being looked after correctly.

Cost about £20 with real and line last time I looked.

Actually, he probably just needs a hand line if going on a boat.

Please correct me but I don't think a Yabangi is allowed to fish off the beach without a licence.
