Post by: WendyA on August 13, 2013, 14:56:22 PM
I've set up a google alert for earthquakes and it tells me there was a biggish one ths morning in the sea not far from Fethiye?  Anybody feel it? I'm in the UK at the moment.

Good, glad everything is ok.

It was this that the 'alert' I saw was linked to and a 'red' (high) mark in the sea south of Fethiye, but it has been overtaken by more updated earthquakes now and 'slipped off' the current earthquake list - looks like a fairly sizeable one south of Panama, unfortunately.

It did actually exist when you posted, because it has existed from all the way back in February 2008.

There are little tremors virtually all the time Wendy. We dont tend to feel anything under about a 3.5
If you can change the alert settings I would change them, as it will be freaking you out almost daily!
After the ' big one' some people, we're putting cutlery in tins on top of their wardrobes to wake them in the night if there were aftershocks, , personally I would rather sleep through them.
You don't need an alert or a tin to let you know if they're big enough  to cause any damage!

Thanks, Kayakebab!  Yes, I was in Calis when we had the 'big one' - it was a bit scary!  I suppose, though, we have to be philosophical and think that if, with that strength, we had so little damage, then, hopepfully, buildings should be ok unless we get something pretty mammoth. I just don't double lock and bolt my front door at night anymore!
I'll stop posting in this section now!
