Title: Uzumlu restaurant
Post by: Evie on July 11, 2014, 14:25:16 PM
Hi Can anyone recommend the wine house restaurant in Uzumlu now it has new owners . We have eaten a few times at  Lup Lup and had a nice meal and desert each time. We went to the Wine House on several occasions and the first few visits were great, however the last couple of times we went last September we were not happy at all. We went for an old ladys 80th birthday (5 of us on a Saturday evening) Table was booked for 8pm. Waited nearly 45mins before we were served a drink and our starters were served at about 9.30pm we then waited until 10.30 to get our main meal which was pretty rough. Each time we wanted a drink we had to go and find the waiter. I must stress that none of the owners were there at the time so maybe this was why we had bad service. Has it improved with the new owners? Or is there another restaurant there we could try.

Have a word with Gulay in the Lup Lup café. A family member is / has started a new venture called Kozalak. Lovely position at the top of Uzumlu with great views with pool and accommodation. Have a look on Facebook if you would like to know more.

The Winehouse is under new ownership and the new owner, Mehmet is making a good job of attracting customers old & new with good quality food and sensible pricing.
After recent events, not related to Gulay, I'm not sure that the Kozalak is open at present.

Tried Wine House last night and was impressed with quality of food and service . We talked to a few couples about their meals and the only negative was the beef casserole tasted a bit "vinegary". All praise for other meals. We will be going again.

there is a new chef at the Winehouse who was a contestant on Masterchef and the food he delivers lives up to the high standards you would expect. We have eaten there a few times and have had fantastic meals on each and every occasion, service is great and the new owner always provides a warm welcome. So would highly recommend this venue for a pleasant evening out.

the Turkish equivalent programme, Food is excellent and beautifully served, Another one to try in  Uzumlu is the Grape garden who also do lovely food. For a fun night out the Fessetta garden with Ian and Sener at the helm is always good fun.

Last night a party of 11 of us went to the Winehouse to celebrate a birthday.  I have to say that 9 out of the 11 meals were totally inedible.  The mezes were disgusting.   3 of us had the Chicken au gratin which turned out to be pieces of chicken sitting on a claggy, thick "bechemal sauce" with not a trace of cheese in sight.  The steak dishes which others had came without vegetables and decorated with HP sauce!  The steaks were not cooked as ordered.  We have lived in Turkey for 7 years and have never had a meal as bad as this here.

I am surprised to read the comments from kyfno since my family and I have eaten at the winehouse regularly since it's been under the new management - the food, the atmosphere and service has been impeccable and can not be faulted not to mention the staff are amazing with kids! On this particular night I was sat at one of the other tables and from what I could see everyone seemed to enjoy their food - surely when all the food has been eaten and not returned, this is sign that the food is good! It is more disappointing to learn that despite the fact that the owner didn't make them pay (although the meals were eaten) that this forum is still used to bad mouth the bar, who has done nothing but try to please the customers - but then again you can't please everyone and some people will do anything for a freebie!!!!

As you were there as a casual diner, and in your opinion everyone seemed to have a good meal, how do you know they didn't have to pay? If you know they didn't have to pay then you also know not everyone seemed to have a good meal!

Nice first post by the way.

Happy to say we went to Grape Garden last Saturday . Meal wax good , reasonably priced and nice atmosphere. Only complaint was soft drinks were served in a small glass instead of providing a can thereby resulting in getting about half the amount. Switched to bottled water.

Thank you Scunner for your remarks, we booked the winehouse  several days before the birthday party, we took a cake for the birthday girl, we waited a long time for the food to be served when it arrived, a pregnant lady who was with us ordered a steak well done, it arrived BLUE,she left straight away after being sick, 2 meals were eaten, a liver dish and a crispy chicken dish, the rest were inedible, the owner was called, when he came we showed him the food, his explanation to us was the chef was in hospital,ie either he had cut his arm of or he was badly burned,we said we would pay for the 2 meals that were eaten and the drinks.
Then yesterday evening 1 of our party was approached by the owner to be informed that he has cctv coverage of our evening and that we had eaten all the food ,we didnt. He said he would put it on your forum to show everyone we were lying.
8 of us are residents of ÜZÜMLÜ, and this the first time any of us have complained about any of the restaurants in the village.

Looks like he is doing all the right things to drum up trade for all his Uzumlu competitors ... what a plum.

Four of us went to Eddies bar last night in Uzumlu. Four different main meals all very tasty and fresh. Deserts reasonably priced with good selection ie apple crumble with cream or ice cream, knickerbocker glory and banana split to name a few. Best meal we've had in Uzumlu. Open all year.

Four of us dined at The  Winehouse last night,  and were very impressed.  The quality and presentation of the food got full marks  from us,  as did the excellent service.  Background   music also was good, although we left before the Michael  Jackson show...

Having read all of the criticism of the Uzumlu Winehouse I decided to give the new owner a chance to answer his critics.
35 of us went there on Sunday to eat and all 35 of us were well pleased with the quality and presentation of the food and the excellent service. A big thankyou to Mehmet and his staff for a first class job.
We'll be back very soon to take advantage of your special offers

I have known Mehmet / Spike for a number of years, originally from when Alladdin's Bar first opened in Calis 2005.

After that we have stalked him ever since to North to Defend in Olu Deniz and more recently Cherry Chows until last year. Lovely guy, we are over in 2 weeks, looking forward to seeing him and visiting the winehouse.

Have yet to be disappointed when having a meal here. My family went on Sunday before their flight back and were impressed with the selection of choices, the meal itself and the pleasant service we received, Well done Spike,
