Thanks to the whole soddin soba saga,I'm back again still dealing with crap from it. Thanks to the inclement weather of last month and trade winds this month I keep getting soot falls. I already paid once for the lounge to be painted, not forking out if it needs doing again.
I know I can ask the wood delivery man for a price, I don't have any idea what a good price is. Also, I'm sure there was some sort of fire cracker thing that you light in the fire base and it clears it I've a faint recollection of the chimney sweep doing something similar when I was a kid.
Anyone had theirs done, or know what a good price would be?

Invite Santa round early, that should do it. ;)

We have a chimney here in Scotland and have sweeper it ourselves. A set of rods that attach to each other and a brush on the end. Really easy. Also the rods can be used as drain rods.
Sets from £15.99 on Ebay. Check the D.I.Y Shop in Fethiye.
If anyone has a set, perhaps you could borrow them?

I can remember my dad doing that at our old house about 60 years ago Jacqui! But it did the job and a lot cheaper than hiring someone. Seem to remember you needed lots of old sheets though to cover the fire while you were doing it. :)

Yes Marina, A sheet on the floor and a sheet with a hole in to put the rods up. Then me running outside to see the brush coming out of the Chimney.
We have lent out these rods and brush many times, but too far to bring them to Turkey for Bernie..

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about running outside to watch for the brush coming out of the top of the chimney! Great excitement ;D

You need someone with a couple of chickens and a length of rope. ;)

We did find a dead bird in the chimney once, also one started a nest on top the the chimney.

Bernie,
Try calling the people you bought it from.
We got ours from the company who advertises in the free newspaper.
Sent them a mail and they were around in two days.
Very efficient/

I thought they would have used a sheep... :) ;D

They do, they ram them up. :) Then watch out for the flocking soot.

We also needed two fire bricks changing .
They cleaned and dismantled the stove. Went on the roof with a big weight that was covered in bristles and lowered it down the flu. after about 5 mins of going back and forth, he came back down and cleaned again.
finally fitting it all back together and doing a test fire to show us it wasn't smoking any more.
Total time spent, about 45 mins and cost around 250 tl. The new firebricks were included and cost around 75 tl each but he only charged for one.
Professional and tidy.
