Last year we took a really nice trip to Ephesuss & Pamukale, her indoors has just seen a TV programme that showed Cappadocia and has decided that we must go there when we are back in September.

Has annyone been on an organised tour? I don't fancy driving. Any suggestions ?

An area of stunning & unique landscapes. Just a slight note of caution, most of the organised trips take in Konya, the original home of the whirling dervishes, where there is strict observance of Ramadan (Ramazan) & Ramazan is scheduled to start 12th - 14th September this year.

Did this independantly some years ago.  We found you really need to allow best part of a week to do justice to the area. Its quite fantastic. You can fly to Nevershire (that spelling is wrong! sorry) and then hire a car or use local transport or local tour companies. We stayed in Avanos, plenty of good hotels and cheap. Many of the Fethiye  tour companies spend a whole night going and  a whole night getting back with 1 night sleeping in an actual bed so its pretty tiring I hear. Flying is quickest (about £40) (Lama Tours) and there is also a bus from Fethiye for about £7 overnight. Anatolian Skys website used to have some good piccys of the area as did Tapestry Holidays before it went bust. Metak, President and CTA also used to run tours (air) there. Marketed much more in France than the UK and many of the villages have "French" resturants and menus!

It will take around 12 hours to get to Goreme by coach. At Goreme otogar there is a very good tourist information office and they will help you to find accomodation. There is a wide range of accomodation. From cheap cave pansyions through to high class hotels.

All of the hotels etc have organised tours of the area.Or you can do your own.

Hi
We went 2 years ago and it was absolutely fabulous. We used Sunset tours on the beach front, but be aware that they book you onto a service coach and liaise with their partners in Goreme, so it would probably be just as well to go independantly. We stayed in a cave hotel, we also did the early morning baloon ride which was too, too beautiful for words and waiting to be picked up at 5.30am, in a town that you appear to have stepped back 2000 years as the mosque calls to prayer is a very eerie and unforgetable experience.
I have also been to Ephesus and Pamukale, but Capadoccia just blows your mind.

After your help and advice, we have decided to hire a car and drive there after all, We have asked some friends to come along and share the drive so it might not be too bad and we can stop half way there and again on the way back and make it a bit of an adventure. So still more questions, what is the best route to take there and back ? and any recommendations on places to stay, we really fancy a night in a cave hotel in Cappadocia and somewehere interesting en-route there and back.

Thanks Guys
