Balloons, Policemen and Air Hostesses
« on: October 08, 2007, 22:53:42 PM »
You have to appreciate the situation we find ourselves in so often in Turkey. Our twins have a fascination for men in uniforms (I think they get that from their mother), and men in uniforms appear to have a fascination with twins. Our twins look anything but Turkish, and Turkish men are almost invariably blown away when the cute kids suddenly decide to converse with them in fluent Turkish.

During one of our several visits to Dalaman for UK flights recently, two policemen came over, made a real fuss of the girls and got the fluent Turkish treatment.

Absolutely stunned and melted, one of the policemen spied a Burger King balloon on a chair, retrieved it and gave it to one of the girls. He must have felt guilty as he walked away, because as we were queueing to board a few minutes later, he reappeared with a second balloon for the other twin.

When the air hostesses walk down the plane to check everyone has their seatbelt on etc., the girls were informed that due to cabin pressure, they should not have brought balloons onto the plane.

Their Turkish is very good but I doubt they know all the words for "We are legally minors and as such it is the airport policemen you need to inform on current aircraft cabin regulations" :P

LOL please don't get the wrong end of the story  :) The girls weren't upset, the point I was making was that if you aren't allowed to bring balloons on a plane, tell the Dalaman policemen who give them at the departure gate!

For the record, the balloons weren't taken off the girls, and pressurised cabin or not, they didn't burst or do anything at all :D
