Tax Man
« on: October 04, 2012, 10:09:36 AM »
I have had an apartment in Calis for 8 years which was an Cooperative up to last year and then we all got our own Tapu. I have just received a demand to visit the Tax Office next week with the Tapu. The property is used just as my holiday home and is not let out!. I have a Turkish Tax number which I have had for many years any suggestions for the reason for my visit please.

It's unlikely that they want to give you some money Roy. Good luck and hope its not bad news.

Is it something to do with the amount on the Tapu.? maybe they are just checking up that the builder paid the correct amount of tax.

Do you speak Turkish Roy? If not try to find someone who does and that you trust to go with you.

I think it is a bit strange they want to see you. I don't know anyone else this has happened to.

I'm sorry to say, and hoping I am wrong Roy but I recall you had a dispute with your builder which you wrote about on CBF last year. If this was not concluded to the satisfaction of all parties (well the builder mainly) it is not uncommon for one party to "tip off" the taxman about something or other. Alternatively it could be this dispute at the core of it and mercury could be right - maybe one of your neighbours has suggested the tax office look into your builder's finances.

Roy, I would go along and assume that the tax man has a copy of your previous post on his desk. Since coming to live here I have been surprised at how many Turkish people read CBF.

I did have a small 2nd flat which I sold in Jan of this year which yes I did let out but had so much trouble
with bad Tenants not paying rent and leaving with me to pick up bills etc. My current flat has never
been let out so I will just find out the reason on Wednesday!
