The difference is between taking on a second nationality/citizenship and giving up your British nationality in favour of another. In the first case, a British citizen with Turkish citizenship would get the services of British diplomatic help in all countries with the exception of Turkey. In the second case they would get British diplomatic help nowhere.

I'm still not sure on the answer to my question though :D
