One technical report I heard said the cockpit override expires after a few minutes and has to be refreshed from the inside. So the co-pilot had to be conscious and mobile throughout the descent. News from Germany is that a sick note has been found that would have taken the co-pilot off duty, but that he had ripped it up so his employers never knew. A tragic situation all round.

And you don't think the airlines will use it as an excuse to increase costs ?

I have no problem with that. I'd rather pay a few quid more if it made the flight safer.

They'd use it as an excuse to increase prices not costs  :)

Except they wouldn't - they wouldn't increase the number in the cockpit to 3 - as mentioned they would get someone from the cabin crew to sit in while there was a toilet requirement.

Most short-haul planes don't have the seating capacity in the cockpit for a 3rd person to be in there through-out the flight anyway.

Exactly! So one goes to the toilet and a crew member sits in their seat till they get back...

How times move on.
I remember when you used to be able to go in the cock pit for a look around mid flight and often the door would be open all flight.

That's still the case on flights up in this part of the world bewva.

But to be honest I don't need to see all that dials. :(

There's usually a jumpseat in the cockpit, meaning it can seat 3 persons.

Perhaps it's now the time to question how confidential, medical records should be.
If somebody is issued with a sick note, should a copy be automatically be forwarded to their employer
