Well, I think anybody who claims for a delay is a dickhead. Have they no consideration for the crew who have suffered the same delay and get no recompense. Delays cost airlines a fortune before the claims come in and they do not create delays for whatever reason. At the end of the day there will be higher prices across the board!!!

What a dickheadish post.

If the crew don't like it then maybe they should think about a career change.

We claimed for a four hour detay a couple of years ago with Thomas cook. It was really easy. They may offer a voucher but you are entitled to cash
Thomas cook had no spare planes in those days , They bought a load more and things have been better for them since.

And you are correct, no obligation to accept a voucher - always hold out for cash.

KKOB's standpoint I fully understand but in your case I'm sure (I stand to be corrected) he would seek some recompense.

I've worked within the transport industry most of my life and fully accept that delays occur and that they can have a roll-over effect onto other services . I would not even consider claiming compensation for a delay unless there is absolute proof that it was due to incompetence.

Interesting point, KKOB.

I, like you, have spent 30+ years in the transport industry (BA, Japanese Airlines, Phoenix (US Airline) - intermingled with 7 years in the Police when I fancied a change).

It's not the reason for delay that I consider so much as the way I'm treated during the delay.

I cannot think of any situation when an airline has offered "incompetence" as a reason for delay. Neither, I am sure, can you.

Absolute proof of incompetence doesn't exist.

Never has, never will.

It boils down to opinion in the end.

(Of course, I was referring to corporate incompetence rather than an individual's mental capacity).

I guess that if you consider the company's actions to be incompetent, that's grounds enough.

Because a company doesn't admit to incompetency as the reason for a failure, doesn't mean that incompetency wasn't the reason for the failure...

True Scunner.

However, it was the "absolute proof" of incompetence that I questioned.

There may well be strong evidence of incompetence;  a total lack of customer service; no ground staff to be found; rude and arrogant airline employees; no information etc.....

I guess many of us have experienced that.

This"catch all" EU ruling, however, is wholly unfair to the airlines but I would still claim in certain circumstances.
