Review of our June & September holidays
« on: October 23, 2017, 19:59:25 PM »
After going to Calis twice a year for the past 16 years, last year we decided to give it a miss.  We went back this year in June and September.   In June we booked for 6 days at the Delta and 14 days at the Gunes, although we fell in love with the Delta we still enjoyed our time at the Gunes.   When we went back in September we stayed at the Delta for 2 weeks and still loved it (already booked for next year).  As the Delta hasn't got a pool we spent quite a few days on the beach which we haven't done for years, but we thoroughly enjoyed it, the lovely Calis breeze made it comfortable to sit there all day.   Unfortunately you cannot call the beach 'lovely' we sat there surrounded by bottle tops and fag ends ! however just gazing out at the lovely view made up for that.  We walked into Fethiye a few times - the park opposite the hospital will look great when it is completed and also make the walk to Fethiye even nicer.   We stuck to the restaurants that we know, ie Bella Mama (a lot) ;  Georges (quite a lot) plus Calis Beach Indian and the Anatolia (when Gordon was playing - it is a good night).  We also met up with the Badgers and had a nice meal at the Beach House .  People in the restaurants all remembered that we had not gone there the year before and were pleased to see us back.   Thoroughly enjoyed both holidays and now looking forward to going back next year.

Nice review Christie.  We visit June and September too - flight prices are awful just now though so not booked yet.  I have no doubt we will, but I'm hoping there'll be some reasonable prices soon.

Just back from a lovely week in Protaras, Cyprus - it has what must be the clearest seas in the entire world, coupled with a lovely fine sand beach. A beach wonder of the World.

But just like Calis, close up the sand is full of fag butts, you can tell who the smokers are with their fag butts sticking out of the sand all around their sunbed - and they just leave them when they go. Hundreds of them.

It appears to be a European problem, people need educating, or prosecuting.

We tried the Aroma Beach for the first time this September, and it was a revelation - no litter of any sort, new sun beds, and a waiter call button on each umbrella.

We've also been to the Aroma quite a bit over the last two weeks and it's a great place to spend a day. Clean, good staff, good facilities and free sunbeds if you spend 10tl.

We did June and September this year ,spending a lot of time at Aroma during the day, time on the beach which we don’t usually do and loads of time cycling further afield often finding deserted beaches further afield and had some lovely times. We still love Calis both as a place to chill and as a base to explore further afield.Even had a beer watching the sunset on to of Babadag this year

We did think about going down to the Aroma beach, especially as the sunbeds are free and we were paying 25 lira a day for sitting on sunbeds surrounded by fag ends and bottle tops, but when we walked down there (in September) it was absolutely full, not a bed to spare.  Presumably you have to get down there early, and as we are not early risers and always enjoyed our leisurely breakfasts at the Delta, there would be no beds available by the time we made it down there.   it was obviously very popular and the beach there did look a lot cleaner.   Maybe we will try it when it is less busy.

Yes, even in October it gets very busy at The Aroma Beach. Mind you the weather has been exceptional the last two weeks. Hasn't been a problem for us getting there early as we are in Sunset apartments, two minutes away!   ;)
Suspect we might have had the same problem as you Christie if we'd been further out, as we also like a leisurely breakfast,   :)

Yes Aroma Beach looks good but old habits die hard with us and we go to Guvans. Always been made very welcome there and its fine having a chat with Carol.

I agree with the rubbish & fag ends on the beach, such a shame, we noticed Aroma was clear also none at surfers beach either. We went to Portugal a couple of years ago and the beach had stations with smallish lidded pots which if you were a smoker you could pick one up on the way to a sunbed, any fags smoked went in the pot, you just deposited the used pot back on the station when you'd finished where the attendant would sort the used pots ready for its next use... seemed to work really well, there were no fag ends on the beach, the larger crock pots were used for general rubbish which seemed to get cleared regularly from each sun bed/brolly......
