Title: Visa Advice Please
Post by: Ray1951 on April 29, 2012, 10:32:30 AM
I spent 42 days in Turkey earlier this year and am returning for a further 82 days. I have been told that I can or will be allowed the £10 visa on entry which would cover the period that I will be staying BUT, would I be better applying for the extension nearer the end of the first visa?   Jan - Feb = 42    May - July = 82

I think to get an answer to your question Ray it would depend on what type of visa you got earlier this year if it is a 90 in 180 days visa thin you may be up the creek. Also I am not aware you can 'extend' your visa.

I too would like to know Ray if it is the new 90/180 day visa you have, only because if it is possible to extend your visa I would be interested in knowing how to do this as well:D

It's a 90 day visa.  I shall keep you informed.  If they give me another 90 day visa at Dalaman I'm cool.  Will keep you posted.

They only issue the maximum 90 days in 180 days visa now. We got one 3 weeks ago. I was told by passport police that I could not have more than 90 days in the next 6 months. I was also led to understand that I could not renew until the old one has run out.

I am pretty sure we can't it has all been covered on here earlyr this year, the 180 day thing would be totally pointless, however if you manage it somehow Ray I will be interested in knowing how  ;)

Landed at Dalaman, first to reach Visa Control.  I had 48 days remaining on my 90/180 visa. The man checked my passport thoroughly and said "you have many days left or do you want new visa?"
I had previously been here in January for 42 days and had expected to take out residency to stay beyond the 48 days but, no need.  Paid £10 and got a new Visa which did NOT state 90/180.  So ????????

As I understand it, the new 90/180 rules did not come into effect until the 1st Feb 2012 so if you purchased your previous visa in Jan regardless of what it said on it, it waould have been a standard 90 day visa. so when you arrived this time, you would have been entitled to buy a new visa. ;)

I know what you're saying philrose but if they were just applying the new rule then surely they would not have given me the option of using the remaining 48 days on the old visa.  The new visa is the same 90/180 days but they have not stamped the 90 days on top which they did previously. No matter, for the time being, this situation suits me until I apply for residency.

The 90/180 only came into force on the 1st Feb, any before that are still on the old system and once they run out you can have a 90/180 day visa, when that runs out (after 90 days in the country) you have to be out of the country until the 180 days are up.

I believe that at a recent meeting with the UK Consul in Bodrum they confirmed that the Turkish authorities have said that they are unlikely to invoke this in the foreseeable future.

I'm in the same situation.I first came out from 26.3 - 7.4 (13 days)I would like to return Sept to mid Oct but my visa is only valid until 20.9.12 Do I buy another on entry or do I have to return on this one.I do not own a property in Calis just a visitor. It's all a bit confussing.

I believe Jan when the new rules came out it was said that you can stay for 90 days in any 180 day visa, pretty sure you can not buy a new one until your current one has expired:(
So you may have to rethink your September dates and have your holiday when your 180 days have elapasd then you can buy a new one which again you will be able to have a maximum of 90 days on your new 180 visa.
Hope this is a help :)

Depends what date you intend to arrive in September - if it is after 21 September (180th day) you will be able to get a new Visa on entry as it will be 181 days or more since the commencement of your previous Visa.  However if your date of entry is before 22 September you will still have some of the 90 days remaining but your holiday will straddle the 180 day ruling.  You must therefore go out of Turkey (say to Rhodes or Meis) on the 180th day and will not be able to return until the 181st day. On your return to Turkey you will be issued with a further 90/180 day Visa.

Hope this helps.

If this is how it is going to work then I think Turkey has knocked yet another big nail in the tourism coffin.
If you were away for a week and had to do a visa trip in the middle then I think most people will just go elsewhere.

If you return on or after 22 September you will have no problem - just get another 90/180 day Visa when you land in Delaman.

No - but you can only get a new visa 181 days after the start of your current visa.  :)

I have just spent 43 days in Turkey on 90/180 day visa (arrived 21 May). Passport stamped when I left Dalaman on Monday. When I return to Turkey in a few weeks time will I need to purchase new £10 visa or just go straight to passport control. Tried to find out at Dalaman but got no definitive answer!!!??

Whilst in Fethiye tried to get extension to 90 day visa but Passport Police refused - they said residency was the only solution.

No new visa needed as you still have 47 days left on the old one.......

I bought a 90/180 tourist visa on 7th May and stayed for 3 weeks. I came back in on the same visa yesterday and will stay another 3 weeks. I will then come back on 24th August and again use the same visa as my total stay will be 64 days.

You must be able to buy  a new visa before the other one expires because in the past I have stupidly paid for another visa  not realising the one I had was still valid.

Does that mean they will take your £10 and give you a stamp even although the visa stamp in your passport is still current?
Title: Re: Visa Advice Please

The visa stamps are given without checking anything. You pay a tenner, they find a gap and stick the stamp in. You could then go to the back of the visa stamp queue, pay another tenner when you get to the front and they'd give you another  ;)

So if you have been in and out earlier in the year you just go straight to passport desk and they will stamp the same visa stamp that I bought in May? Take it it will come up on their screen dates when i have been in and out of Dalaman?

I am in need of some verication here as I am flumoxed.  If we were in Turkey from 10/04/2012. to 20/04/2012. and intend coming back on 06/10/2012 to 19/10/2012.  This means that when we arrive we are within the180 days but I am sure we will be outside the time period when we leave, so can anyone tell me should we get a new visa or just use the one from April.  Thanks in anticipation.

As you entered Turkey on 10 April 2012, (your date of arrival counts as day 1) I calculate the 180th day as 6 October 2012.  According to the new rules you cannot get another 90/180 day visa until the 181st day.  If you have an evening flight on 6 October and do not arrive until early hours of 7 October you will not have a problem.

I'm sure many people will be in a similar situation to you.  The new style visas issued from 1 February 2012 are now at or nearing their expiry date so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks to anybody who may have straddled the 180 days.

Thanks Marggie, our flight is a day flight on the 6th so we will arrive during the day, we therefore cannot get a new visa as it is the 180 day.  Are we therefore o.k. to leave on 19th without a visa.  Thanks.

There's an article in this week's edition of LoL, but has been taken from Kalkan Turkish Local News (KTLN). They have tried to find out what is happening as the first of the 90 / 180 day visas are just expiring. They have contacted various authorities & about the only one that has replied is Dalaman Airport, who stated that you would be able to purchase a new visa, even if the previous one had not expired, (despite this being in contravention of the law).

However, if you were to overstay you would be fined & that you would have to buy your next visa before leaving your country of origin, at the Turkish Embassy / Consulate. Also, if you overstay by more than 15 days, you would be banned from reentering Turkey, for a period of at least 3 months rising to 6 months.

KTLN do state that this was the only reply they got, & that, of course it being Turkey, anything could actually happen

Hi 160606, looks like your best bet would be to get new visa stickers when you land - after all it will be the 180th day - think that would be less risky than being there on an expired visa.

However, as your visit is a fair way off, I'm sure there will be a fair amount of information on here before then which may help you.

Thanks for that Marggie, you have been more than helpful, and yes I agree will keep my eye on the situation and advice here on cbf but think we would be better to buy new visa to save any problems.  Hoopefully we will be househunting while we are in Calis this year so don't want to create any unneccessary problems.

Well what a shambles that turned out to be. We flew in to Dalaman on the 26th April and flew home 3 weeks later. Today we flew into Istanbul Ataturk and went straight to passport control. The guy looked at our visas and said they are out of date, only valid for 90 days I asked about the new ruling but was told no, only 90 days , We then had to queue at the visa desks and I asked two different guys about the visa both said only valid for 90 days and were quite rude having a laugh about it to each other. So new visas purchased, exactly the same as the ones we have which state 90 days in 180. Hopefully you lot will have better luck in Dalaman
