Tapu and proprty insurance
« on: June 07, 2005, 11:16:06 AM »
Hi,

We have just got our keys and are now filling our new place with furniture.
We want to arrange contents and property insurance (incl earthquake) but have been told by a local Turkish friend that we wont be able to arrange property and/or earthquale insurance until we are in receipt of the TAPU - which will take about 12months.

Is that right?

It seems a little strange, being in posession of an apartment but not being able to insure it.

All thoughts appreciated.

Glen

Hi Glennat. Check to see if the construction company are insuring the properies for the first year. That's what ours did.

Thanks BabaYard,
I'll pass that onto Natalie (the better half), who is currently in Turkey.  I'm stuck here, working!

HI Kanga,

The problem is we are not able to purchase buildings insurance until we have the TAPU - which will take about 12 months.  In the meantime the building could fall/burn/shake down and we wouldn't be covered....so it seems?

Glen, speak to your Turkish Bank. Ours (Finanz) agreed to set up the insurance with a covering letter whilst we waited for the Tapu. As it goes we didn't need it as the Tapu arrived

Worth a try

I agree with Steve , property can be insured although the name on deed is different , they will add a special note with your names to certificate so that , in case of an event, you can get the money. You can go and speak with Ayse in Finansbank

Our situation is the same as Cenk mentioned, that our name is not on the Tapu but we do have insurance. We will be getting the TAPU sorted during our next visit as a priority.
