I think any woman who makes a stupid noise when hitting the ball should lose that particular point. That would soon rid the game of it, it's so ridiculous in some matches I have to switch off.

They've been making noises with their martial arts for centuries - you don't have to look back too far to find that this is something pretty new relatively. Some great female tennis players managed to do very well without sounding like an animal.

I don't disagree that the noise is unpleasant. I was a Steffi Graf fan and the noise Monica Seles made in those days used to get on my nerves. I seem to have mellowed with age and seem to have got used to it. However, I don't take the fact that they have been doing it for centuries in martial arts as an excuse; they had to start sometime.  Think, we could have had films like "Enter the Silent Dragon" and "Hush Hour" :D
