Does anyone know the laws in Turkey regarding smoking in your hotel room?Do you have to go outside on your balcony,if there is one,to smoke or can you smoke in your actual room?Sensible replies please, this is a genuine question.

Not sure - have read that it is "all indoor areas including restaurants and bars".

The application of the law may be a little more relaxed around here but generally its no smoking in hotel rooms although on the balcony or hanging out a window would be acceptable  :)

I don't think hotel bedrooms are covered, as they are not public areas as such. I've seen a number of places where they have a small sign in the bedroom asking peeps to smoke only on the balcony, which seems reasonable. It does *ee me off though when they can't be bothered to provide an ashtray & I have to wade through a pole of someone else's dog ends

It seems to be a simple case of different rules for different hotels. When I was in istanbul a few months back, smoking in the rooms was not a problem. I have a hotel booked for Bodrum in a months time and it's a choice of smoking or non smoking room. I am off to Antalya this weekend and the hotel says all rooms non smoking.

As a sympathetic ex-smoker I must ask, who would want to smoke in the room when there is a balcony to make use of? Even when I was a smoker, I'd much prefer to sit out than fill a small room with smoke.

One thing to remember if you do sit and smoke on your balcony - try not to flick your ash on the people below you. Might seem obvious but I've been in rooms where the people above have just flicked their ash and thrown their dead fags over the edge. Not nice if it lands in your coffee and dangerous if it lands in my beer  ;)

I would have thought most hotel rooms would have smoke alarms these days - so smoking inside would not be a good idea unless you want your ears shredding  :o
