I notice there are some vegetables that dont seem to be obtainable
eg celery and parsnips - are there any others?
Also has anyone tried growing these themselves?

I have never been able to find swede, and the shop in Fethiye (behind the fish market) that sells seeds, doesn't have swede seeds either. I got some brought over last year, planted and did really well. Just sown them again for another crop.

An answer to half of your question may be found in a rather good Fethiye Times article posted today:

Celery is available from time to time in both Migros and Carrefour  It is rather anorexic compared to the UK but it is very crisp and has a good flavour. :)

The celeriac that's in season now is a very good substitute for celery for flavouring.

It's also very tasty for grating and adding to salads.

Yes, I love it.  I always wondered what it'd be like and now we have it regularly.  It is good mashed and mixed with mashed potato.  Ooh, I'l have to try that with grilled cheese on top.

:) I use 'Celery' seeds in quite a few recipes, they add the same flavour even in salads  8)

BTW, a friend would like to get her hands on Gelatine (not Jelly).  SO, if anyone knows where, in this area, it can be found.  I would appreciate the info.  Ta
