Title: Going to the Doctors?
Post by: nichola on September 22, 2011, 22:40:02 PM
You live in Fethiye and you want to go to the Doctors.

Not the hospital, not the lovely man at the chemist opposite Migros but to see a Doctor where you can have a private and confidential chat about what ever is bothering you.

Where do you go [?]

That's something I'd like to know too Nichola.  I heard that people who have Residency are now entitled to visit a Dr but, as you say, where?

I hav'nt personaly used him yet, but friends have and say he is very good and speaks some english as well.
If you walk towards the Law Courts on the road passing the Sunday Market take the left turn at the traffic lights and the clinic is about 200 metres on the right, next door to the mosque.

The saglik ocagi is where you can go to see a GP every family has now been allocated a GP. If you go to the saglik ocagi and tell them which area you live, they will tell you the name of your doctor.

Thanks Phil - I don't need a GP at the moment but will bear him in mind if I do in the future.  Is he the only one in Calis do you know as I don't live near Sunday Market.

Thanks sunnyd and where is the saglik ocagi for Fethiye located or is there more than one, for example do places on the outskirts like Karacula or Tasyaka have a saglik ocagi of their own?

I've just been asking my Turkish friend about the Saglik Ocagi:  apparently there are 2 which serve the Calis area - one is Foca Mah and the other is Akarca Mah.  I am informed that these are, in fact, the GP surgeries.  My friend was surprised though at why we would want to go and see a GP and why we wouldn't just go straight to the hospital.  I explained that the Devlet Hastanesi is a bit like a cattle market at the best of times with many people waiting to see one Dr.  She then told me that it's possible to make an appointment, online, before you visit the hospital, which is something I wasn't aware of - and the appointment is for that day!  (Listen up NHS, lol).
For the hospital's website, click this link:  http://www.fethiyedh.gov.tr/ and on the left hand side you'll see a green square with Hastane Rendevu Merkezi.  When you click on that you will need to enter your Kimlik Number and password.  To get the password you'll need to register.  This is all in Turkish but I've just done it myself (with no help!) so I'll try to remember how I did it:
when you have entered your Kimlik No. you'll need to click on Yeni Uye - this will open the registration form.
Adi = First Name
Soyadi = Surname
Cinsiyeti = M/F (Erkek/Kadin)
Dogum Yeri = year of birth
Dogum Tarihi = date of birth (drop down calendar)
Baba Adi = Father's name
Anne Adi = Mother's name
Then it asks for telephone number (mobile & house); email address x2 and password x2
When you've entered all that, click enter and a message will come up which says that an email has been sent to you - check your emails (including Junk mail) and voila - you should have an email from the hospital.  You should then be able to go back to the Hospital's website and make your appointment.... good luck!

Or if you are not very computer literate go to the 'Can we help you ' desk in main reception and Asye and the team will make an appointment for you.

Please bear in mind, there is another part of the Devlet where the canal runs alongside the road going into Fethiye(Near the Temperature board on the right / near Tuesday market).  So, when you make an appointment, make sure you know which hospital you have to go to.

How do I go about seeing a doctor if I am not an expat please? There is a certain tablet that I know is very cheap in Turkey but the nice pharamist in Fetiyhe told me I would need to see a doctor to have it authorized, I know there is that clinic opposite Sok but I have read on here they charge stupid prices! Any help greatly appreciated :)

For certain medicines a (so called green) prescription is required.
It is easy for a doctor to write such a prescription but they will need to pay tax for it.
Therefor they charge the patients a 'consultation' fee.

The going rate is about 50 TL.

I don't know which clinic you are referring to but you can always try to bargain.

This is Turkey after all :-)

Thank you for reply,that makes sense about the prescription.The only clinic I know is the one that has a sign outside saying doctor and dentist it is more or less opposite the Sok supermarket, never thought to try and bargain think I will give it a go in that place. many thanks again:D

They are not open to bargaining and charge more if you don't have residency - they were charging 125 lira just for residents to see a Dr and double for non residents.    The Esnaf was cheaper when my friend needed to see a Dr earlier in the year - the Devlet even without residency is your cheapest option.  Or there are clinics around with specialist Drs if you need someone who understands your illness to authorise the prescription.

just as an addition to the hospital-appointment-making theme, you can also do so by phone, but it is not free. In fact my (Turkish) in laws just had to pay a huge phone bill for taking advantage of this service.

125 TL for residents and double for non-residents...what a ridiculous prices!!

My husband is a doctor and he charges residents 50 TL for a consultation.

I am not ill as such but am on a certain pill for anxiety and am only allowed 10 a time over here which dont last me 5 minutes to be honest. I have spoken to the lovely pharamisist in Fetiyhe and he said pills would be about a few lira but would need it to be authorized by a doctor. I am out next Monday and just thought it may be cheaper to see a doctor to authorize the pills and if I could have bought a few boxes it would work out cheaper then a prescription over here at £7.40 for 10 pills :)But obviously it wont be cheaper if I have to pay all that to see a doctor!
