Hi there, I am thinking about buying my friends car as she is getting a new one. It is on an MB plate. What is the procedure and do we need a translator? A friend said that I have to go to Mugla to sort out the registration. Can it be done in a day and if so what is the procedure there? Thanks in anticipation.

Unless it has changed in the last few months its a simple procedure - you and the seller go to a Notary with all your paperwork - residency, tax number & passport and all the car documents, you will need to arrange for a translator.
You and the seller sign the paperwork from the notary after your translator has explained what it says, and thats basically it - notary will send the stuff to Muğla and in about a weeks time the postman will deliver the new registration documents to you.

I think you will find you have to go to the traffic police as well for them to nsign it.mine took about 3 hrs.

My dealings were in August/September so things may have changed since then.

Will be selling ours to a friend later in the year, so a couple more questions. How much is the Notary fee?, do you need to go to the traffic police? and are they now in Gunlukbasi ?
-
Our notar fees were about 100 Lira _ which generally the buyer pays and the translator was 50 Lira.
And yes the Trafik polis are now at Günlükbaşı - but may be going back to the original location once it has been rebuilt.
