Title: Where's the best place for water sports ?
Post by: Susiepink on August 11, 2014, 15:12:37 PM
I've got my daughter and son in law coming out next week and they would like to know if they can go water skiing anywhere. I've never seen any, but sure they must be somewhere, where is the best place for water sports? Also, if they want to jump off Babadağ, do they just go up on a dolmus and book a jump when they are up there, or do they have to book in Olu Deniz? Any other suggestions for two sporty daredevils?

Have a word with the guys at Focus Travel, just passed the 3Cs shop going towards the car park. They'll be able to sort out the Babadag jump & I think they include transfers from Calis & back.

The Fethiye Surf Centre for Water Skiing at Koca Calis    http://www.fethiyesurfcenter.com/index_eng.aspx
Sky Sports in Oludeniz are suppose to be the best ones to go with.  They have a good safety record.
Also, make sure your daughter and son in law take our Hazardous Sports Insurance with their Travel Insurance Company or they will not be covered as Paragliding is classed as an Extreme Sport and the normal travel insurance will not cover it.

Of course, Liz answered my question, but as always up pops another answer from Jacqui with the advice about the insurance. It just tickles me the way she is so on the ball with it every single time!!

Water skiing is available at the Lagoon, either with Eftelya Sport (Apo & co, but a much reduced service from previous years, sadly), and INCI Water Sports, next to Eftelya. You'll have to pay the toll to get into the lagoon for access, or, if you can get their telephone number from Gurkhan (operates the speed boats near to the boat trip section on Belcekiz Beach - Olu Deniz)) they may be able to pick you up from the same boat trip section and you'd avoid the toll.

Alternatively, go to Gemiler Beach, near Kaya, and you could hail one of the speed boats that service the boat trips when they moor up alongside Nicholas Island.

And that's your 3rd alternative - take a boat trip and ski alongside Nicholas Island. But - they want to charge 80TL so try negotiating - we failed to get a reduction this time so didn't bother - I think they are more interested in the Banana rides & suchlike!

Good luck.

Definitely no motorised water sports at the Surf Club - they have kite surfing, wind surfing and catamarans for rent though.
