Title: A Welcome to 2016 from the AKP
Post by: JohnF on January 01, 2016, 13:56:17 PM
Another round of tax and price increases kicks in today.

Electricity prices up by 6.8%, tax on tobacco & alcohol up again and a 30% hike on mobile phone purchase tax.

Admittedly, the minimum wage has now risen to 1,300tl per month - however the "assistance" promised by the government to small businesses of 110tl per month has been pretty much nullified by the new tax of 99tl per employee, per month, levied on businesses.  Oh and lets not forget the income tax rises later on this year that'll take 156tl per month off those on minimum wage.

Happy days, eh?

One day the penny (or lira) will drop with the Turkish voters.    But I don't know how long that will take.

In years to come, people might look back to these golden days, when electricity only went up 6.8%.

tax on tobacco & alcohol up again

The minimum fixed tax rate on tobacco products increased by 5.1 percent to 4.42 liras and the fixed rate by 25 percent to 0.25 liras to mark the New Year.

The minimum fixed tax rate for beer has been increased by 0.18 liras to 1.03 liras. The minimum fixed tax rate for two liters of rakı has been increased by 23 liras to 130.68 liras.

That's a lot of liras

Well, on the basis that Diyanets budget is in excess of 5,000,000,000tl this year (yes, I got the zeros right) expect the next zam in June to be even more vicious than this one.
