Title: Staysure Travel Insurance
Post by: Highlander on August 24, 2017, 13:20:16 PM
Went on-line and got a very reasonable quote even with declared medical conditions.

Then, just to be sure we contacted Staysure to advise them that the present Mrs H is awaiting an operation (not life threatening)

I was astounded to be told categorically that because of the operation Staysure would not cover Brenda for her declared medical conditions !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked the fellow if Staysure would not insurance the possibly hundreds of thousands of people who are awaiting operations to which he replied "correct".

So be very careful when deciding on your travel insurance.

They've probably got no money left having spent a fortune on my medical repatriation from Turkey a few years ago. Thanks Staysure.

I am afraid I am struggling with the logic here.

Brenda's operation has nothing to do with her declared conditions.

And as I said there must be thousands of people who are awaiting procedures/operations and I do wonder how many of them who are insured with Staysure are aware of this condition.  :( :( :(

It's easy to understand. People who address their health issues and seek to solve them are not insurable. Those who ignore or avoid them are.

Erm...

We have been at it all week trying to find travel insurance with medical cover. They are all the same.. If you are waiting for an operation or results.. They won't insure you or bang the price up to a ridiculous amount.. The varying amounts are unbelievable.. I went with explorer.. Best price all round and then bought through Topcashback..saved another £36.50.

Some years ago I was looking to take out travel insurance with Tesco. As we were both on statins we had to do the application via a telephone call as opposed to on line. When I queried why it would be more expensive even though we had our cholesterol levels under control as opposed to those who had never had theirs measured and may be at risk, I was told that that was how it was. However, after quite an extensive conversation on the subject, our premium turned out lower than the one quoted had we renewed on line with no flagging up of a controlled cholesterol level. So, sort of proves your point Scunner,

Ray that seems extraordinarily cheap.

Cheapest with our declared medical conditions (non life threatening - I hope  :)) was £166.00

Would you mind confirmingI confirm that your quote was for 1. Bronze Cover, 2 Single Traveler, 3 to Turkey and 4 with declared medical.conditions.

Insurance has certainly turned into a minefield.
Both my wife's conditions (rheumatoid arthritis) and my taking blood pressure and statins were previously accepted with no loading.
On renewal her pre-existed condition would not be covered.
Unfortunately within the last 12 months she had surgery for endometrial cancer. Tumour was removed and fortunately was only at stage 1.
Three examinations later by consultant showed no complications, however because this was within one year since surgery LV would only give cover for my conditions. The cancer condition I

Don't know what happened there!!
The cancer condition I could understand but not the RA. It would appear that both would now constitute high risk.
After long negotiation with insurer they are now prepared to extend the cover for my next booked trip but after, it would appear on my wife's conditions she will not be covered.
As for cost it was previously £264 now £324 and was to a degree down to the value of the £. Presumably over-seas costs/claims had reflected this.

H, I was wondering if you have looked at SAGA for insurance. Thats the company I go with, but then again I normally just purchase a short term policy, as I only take one holiday a year.

Your quite right Mary it does depend on the length of stay you require. Saga I believe has a maximum cover of 120 days per year and individual trip limit of 45 basic day cover although can be extended at extra cost. This was the main reason we took LV as their premier cover is for 90 days and automatically covers Turkey as Europe, not all companies do.

A friend who knows her stuff rang round dozens about this and said the only one who could definitely confirm they do cover treatment in private hospitals was Saga.

Our very good friend the boatman took us straight to Esnaf when the present Mrs H had her problem with her knee.

No problems whatsoever and we were insured with Saga then.

Off topic.......

Having re-read my last post I am reminded of the great Bill Shankly's quote when one of his team said he couldn't play on the Saturday because he had hurt his leg. Shankly replied "It's Liverpool's leg, you're playing !"

That could be why I confirmed Saga use private hospitals then
