Just wondering as to the whereabouts of some of the familiar Calis characters. The one that comes to mind is the Turkish man who walked all the way from Gunlukbasi to Calis seafront every day pushing his barrow selling sweet pastries. He was always happy and smiling and always wore a pith helmet. We called him Sapka and it became a running joke trying to buy his helmet off hIm. We haven't seen him at all this year.

I didn't see the young boy with the scales in Calis this year?
-
Neither did we - but he was pretty ineffectual to be fair :)
-
Did the boy with the scales have much choice but to do it?
Was he not being "run" by whoever the local "beggar king" is?
A lad used to do similar throughout Fethiye's evening hotspots.
-
Fair point :(

Was he not being "run" by whoever the local "beggar king" is?
I remember Fethiye before the beggar king.
And McDunalds.
-
Is he any relation to the Lion King?
-
Perhaps I've read too much Dickens. I thought that all these young beggars were "run" by someone.
I could well be wrong and they are actually entrepreneurs in training.

We was wondering about the man with the pith helmet, he had a hooter on his cart and always made us smile. He used to walk past our house everyday, selling sweet simits. We always wished he sold the bread ones.

We used to talk to Mustafa who was the guess your weight boy about 4 years ago. We saw him a couple of years ago and asked him why he wasn't doing it and he said it was because he was too old, he was about 14 then. I was also told that that is why there hasn't been one this year, I was also under the impression that they were doing it for someone else.

Haven't had enough coffee yet!
Unfortunately didn't see Adem shoeshine this year, such a gentleman who works hard for his family.
-
We've seen Adem several times this year. Always make sure we have some shoes for him to clean. And you are right suzyq, a true gentleman.
-
We saw A dem many times in September.
-
Just come back a few days ago.we were there for 5 weeks and saw adem every day.he was even as far down as obens this year.
-
Adem is currently painting the outside of our house. He painted inside last year and did an excellent job. A few more days and our external paintwork will be finished and it's looking very good. I can highly recommend him.
Adem will be returning to his family for two weeks and has some work lined up in Cyprus for the winter.
He has asked me to thank those who offered kind words and he hopes to return to Calis in April.
-
Good to hear, best wishes to you too Adem
-
We last saw Adem on Saturday evening, and passed on some bits and pieces for his boys, hats off to this true gent.
-
Was there a couple of weeks ago and Adem was around every night. As someone else has stated he is going to be working in Cyprus for the winter but hopes to be back in Calis next April.
Look forward to seeing him again next year as he is one of the nicest people you can meet.

Is the little lady who sells little things from her covered wheelchair still about?
-
She was about in August, didn't see her in fethiye market last week but it was raining.
