If, as I suspect, this topic has been posted before and/or has flogged to death, I'm sure someone will delete it and/or lock it.

Where were you on 11 September 2001 ?.

Mrs H and I happen to be in Calis.

That evening, I met with friend (Pete) from Watford who we had met the previous year.

Pete immediately informed me that "the Japs have bombed America".

I advised him to lay off the sauce.

"No no" he said "It's retaliation for Hiroshima".

Again I was incredulous but as I remember it, the Japanese Prime Minister was on Turkish television shortly after the attack.

The other thing I remember was sitting in a bar surround by people all watching the endless television coverage. We were all sat in total silence, unable to comprehend what we were watching.

I also have a vague recollection of a football supporter arriving, bedecked in his team's replica shirt and asked why the football wasn't on. When it was explained that the football had been cancelled his instant reaction was WHY FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!

We flew back two days later.
