Even though this ditti doesn't really concern Calis I thought I'd share it with you anyway.
I work in a secondary school for pupils with vaying degrees of disabilites, both learning & physical. Our school has recently made links with a turkish mainstream school that specialises in the Arts. During May they invited a group of students to visit them for 10 days. It was an absolutely amazing time. We were made to feel like royalty. Trips were organised, concerts performed, art and music workshops taken place. In the evenings, in their own time the staff and pupils took us out to sample the local food and wine (for the adults you understand) Our pupils loved every minute. With so many barriers to communication - diffferent languages, plus some of our childrens disabillites, you would think communicating would have been a problem, but no, the turkish students and staff were so patient and inventive.
On leaving day one of my pupils left crying saying she didn't want to leave her new sisters and brothers behind. So well done Turkey for giving a group of English kids the best of times.

They are coming over to England soon so let's hope the weather improves and they love us Brits as much as we loved them.

Dougie

What a lovely heartwarming story.

It just goes to show that children can overcome the hurdles put in front of them and make a success of things.

I hope the return trip is just as successful, you'll have to post again and let us know  :)

Fantastic!!

It brings back the faith for me, now you have made the contact never let go.

Our children need to experience life and culture outside of the UK, this not only gives the children from the UK a time to remember but educates the children of Turkey that special needs children can be part of every day life.

Well done Dougie and keep up the good work, us parents with special children need people like you.:D:D:D

Sounds like a great time was had by all.

The service is changing and it is opportunities like these that children and adults with disabilities are now looking for.

We are changing our respite service and bringing it forward into this century where people have a wider range of choices made available to them.
If anybody has any good contacts for respite care abroad can they send them to my e-mail.
Thank you Heather
