This is not confirmed but I have also heard from other sources that the days of border jumping visa runs are coming to an end.
Also there is talk here about it to.

Any other ways the Government can dream up to make it difficult for people to be here and put their money into the Turkish economy?

Visa runs coming to an end?

We were told something similar when we were applying for our residency back in March, but it was more to do with the tourist visa being applicable for only 1 month instead of the 90 days. The reason we were told, was most "tourists" only come for a week or two and it is supposed to be a holiday visa. There is another rule that could invalidate people staying on tourist visa's already in place, that is that if you intend staying longer than a month you should "apply to the local security Authorities". How many have?

Not sure how true it is, as this story has been doing the rounds for some time now, but who knows.

I am not sure either but one thing they did implement was the no entry back into Turkey for the number of days you overstayed.
Also if the authorities did go ahead, I think it is pretty much the same as what other countries do aswell.

It's obviously not right, and it's obviously an abuse of the system (a tourist visa should be exactly that) - but in this land of 'flexible law', does it do any harm? I have residency but for those who find the visa run easier for various reasons, why make life a little harder for them to live here?

Upside down logic from Turkey. We want to join EU and so we will make it more difficult for Europeans to come Turkey!?

Interesting note from the Turkish Consulate site:

TOURIST VISA FOR ORDINARY PASSPORT HOLDERS (ALL COUNTRIES)

Please note: tourist visas do not give you the right to take up paid or unpaid employment or to reside, or to study (including student exchange program) or to establish yourself in business in Turkey.

http://www.turkishconsulate.org.uk/en/visa.htm#foot4

It seems all those that do the visa run and reside in Turkey are breaking the law.

Seems daft to me when they want to enter the EEC.

We want to join the single market of the EU and enjoy the freedom of employment across the Union, but you can't work here..!

Things will have to change if they really want it.
