Title: Ephesus & Pamukkale
Post by: Ian on October 01, 2010, 15:36:17 PM
Just been on the 2 day trip with Pioneer Travel - cost £42.
Had a really good time - would have cost as much to do on your own - example - entrance to Pamukkale 20 lira over the door - they gave us prepaid Tursab tickets which cost them 10 lira.

Included 2 breakfasts - both very basic Turkish - but still ok - a decent standard overnight hotel with a decent 3 course evening meal.

We stopped on both days at a bufe style place where I am sure they make a good bonus and the food was average - cost 12 lira and 10 lira but again - overall excellent value!

Ian :D

The ampitheatre at pammukale took my breath away -I literally made me cry-bizarre. I am not normally prone to crying at ancient monuments but this one got me at it. :o

I was also surprised (I am not very smart) when the guide showed us a slab of stone with the Goddess Nike carved on it and said "can you see the Nike logo here - which is where they got it from"

You can definitely see the shape below:

Dycedon - if you look at the line between her hands - follow it down from top right and then up around her gown???

In fact as you should do with all Goddesses - knock her block off :D

Really pleased you enjoyed it :D

It really does amaze you how much wonderful history is on our doorstep in Fethiye - if this was Italy I suspect we would be paying much more for limited access !

Excellent photos and a great time to visit with reasonable temperatures and  not a cruise passenger in sight.Mind the inevitable Japanese/Chinese tourist can be seen. :)

We did this trip in September and thoroughly enjoyed it, good value for money but not enough time spent in Ephesus & Pamukkale compared to the time spent sat on the coach and the visit to Carpet factory & Onyx factory which we were not told about when we booked the trip.

Thought the hotel was very good but did not arrive there until 7.00 pm so did not have time to use the pool or mud bath before dinner.  The shock for the drinks came when we went to pay the bill and found the prices were in Euros and not Lira, some of the price lists on the dinner table did not display the prices and when the waiter was asked for the price of wine people assumed this was Lira but it was Euros which was almost double the price, people just refused to pay the Euro price and left the amount in Lira, this is something the rep should inform people, but it did not spoil the weekend & would definitely recommend this trip, brilliant value.
