Apparently this is a quick way to self-test your IQ. Do the test as quickly as possible. Your first answer to each question is the only one acceptable.
1. A bat and a ball cost £1.10 in total. The bat costs £1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?
2. If it takes five machines five minutes to make five widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets?
3. In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

I got three correct answers in 40 seconds. So I now self-score myself at 80/- a pint. [Sorry - that should read "I award myself a pint of 80/-".]

Have sent a pm in hope more than expectation :(
-
You're way off the mark with the answer to number 3 H. ;)
-
I'll settle for 2 out of 3 :)
-
Sent you a PM KKOB.
-
Thanks Mary. You have 2/3, but you've not made the same error as Highlander. :)
-
I got three out of three in about the same time as Colwyn.
Mine's an Estrella thanks.

Yeah, but mine were correct. Deduct one Estrella per mistake.
-
As were mine you cheeky old sod.

KKOB, if you hadn't told H which one he got wrong, would he and Mary have been able to compare notes and be certain of the correct three answers? a. Yes b. No.
-
c. Don't know.
-
Whoo Hoo I got all 3 right....But I did take my time though.
-
Looks like it's my round then : :)
-
The answers are
a.5p
b.5 minutes
c. 47 days ( Although there is an argument that 1 is the correct answer as on day 47 the lake surface is half covered and on day 48 it's completely covered. )

I reckon the answer to my follow up question is "a. Yes" but only if H and Mary agree to put in different lists of answers so one of them is bound to be right.
Working: We know that H has one wrong, Mary has one wrong, and they are not the same. So that means that they have right answer in common. I'll call that answer "A" and the other answers give different letters. So:
Question. 1 2 3
Answer H A B C
Answer Mary A D E
We know that H has got one wrong. He guesses it is Q2 and so resubmits his answers as A-D-C. Mary must guess the other way and suppose H's answer to Q3 is wrong so she must answer A-B-E. Both possible combinations are thus covered. One must be right.
I think.

You are trying to blind me with science (or something)
