Title: Was there any need
Post by: Highlander on October 25, 2017, 16:27:20 PM
This photo of a fatal car crash in our area appeared today on the BBC Scotand website.

Was there any real need to publish that horrific picture ?.

I realise that far more graphic images appear in the Turkish press but it seems so insensitive to me.

I think it probably is necessary. Cars are thought to be so safe these days that people think they are just going to walk away from any collision. If by publishing this photo it stops one family going through the anguish of losing a loved one due to something that most of the time could be avoided, then yes it is worthwhile.

That of is the argument madmart but I'm note sure that it justifies publishing that photo. :(

I guess it’s a sign of the times with the broadcasters trying to keep up with social media, everyone carries a camera now and the BBC has to compete online.

How very sad. Was it his car John? A A3 for a 17yr old must cost a fortune in insurance.

Cars have become much faster since I was that age and I wonder if the alongside improvements in construction and safety have kept up?

Very sad H, but the fact is that, on average, 5 people die every day of the year on UK roads. In Turkey it's roughly 4 times that number.

I guess I could google but how many car owners in Turkey v UK? Would need a lot more info such as where those deaths happened, any contributing factors (poorly maintained vehicle etc), Speed, age of vehicle etc

A death is a death though, very sad indeed and each is likely to have an impact far wider than the individual who passed away

I have long considered that Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May were an extremely bad influenced on young drivers.

I don’t believe you can blame them. I remember days of mark two escorts and capris. On the basis of your argument we could also blame Minder and The Sweeney

Im glad to not have to travel up and down the hill to Ovacik anymore. Accidents are almost a daily occurrence there, especially now the weather is turning and we have rain. Im suprised the fatalities in that area arent more, especially when you see holiday makers on quads going hell for leather up and down it. That beautiful young girl Amarna Carthy and her aunt went into the ditch on a quad. They had moved aside to let agitated drivers past. Sadly she passed away and her aunt severely injured. I think you take your life in your own hands whatever form of transport you use in that location. A real accident blackspot.

I'm surprised you're not blaming Ben Hur.
