After many years of hotels in calis, this year we have decided to stay longer and rent an apartment or villa.
The prices of a basic 2 bedroomed apartment are very expensive and coupled with the rising prices in flights its starting to get a bit pricey now.
We love calis but when you think how basic calis is its making us think about going somewhere else next year.
Anybody else thinking its getting too expensive?
-
Yes
-
Yes Chariste agree, We have been looking at prices in September and they are expensive coupled with costly flights. On the positive side for Calis quite a few of the decent apartments were booked for The first two weeks of September 8)
We love Calis and hope to return this year but are struggling with the prices.
-
Yes.
We've not booked anything for this year yet, couldn't book early flights as we didn't know when we could go and now the prices of them are ridiculous. We'd like to rent a private apartment, like we did last year, for a few weeks but the costs are starting to become prohibitive. We also love Calis and the thought of not going again really saddens us, but it will depend on prices of both flights and accommodation.
-
I booked MCR/DAL with Easy Jet in September when Monarch went bust. 5th May - 16th June, 1 x 23kg hold bag, £346.87. Yesterday I booked exactly the same for a fellow Violet owner, £427.54. Mine also included seat pre-booking. Yesterdays did not!!
-
We booked when the sales were on last year so did OK. But looking at prices now they are expensive to Dalaman, yet Antalya seem cheaper for some reason.
-
I think rental costs have gone up for two reasons - 1) The cost of compliance with the new regulations has an effect as owners want to pass that cost on, and 2) There are fewer people renting their places out due to the new regulations so when the supply reduces the prices increase.
On our site in Ovacik, there are 24 villas, and it used to be that probably 75% of owners rented out, or at least "rented" to friends at mates rates. Now there are only three that rent out and they have put their prices up a bit.
Our flights for June/July were under £300 for the two of us, but we have just booked for September and had to pay a tad over £400. That's from Luton - first lot with Thomas Cook and second lot with Easyjet. Still not too bad.

my flight Easter is £29,99 to Birmingham returning £51 very happy with that.

Id be happy if my and taxi to the airport and transfer to Fethiye cost that, never mind the flight costs

I was considering booking for my grandchildren to Lara Beach in May.. (I need all inclusive for them) Flights would have been£850 plus luggage and booked seats.. Lanzarote flights were cheaper but the hotels are extortion.. We have finally booked Sarigerme Holiday village and got a child free.. Flights, transfers. luggage all in....£1200
-
We are going to Cuba all inclusive for many hundreds of pounds less than a comparable deal in a similar hotel and dates in Olu Deniz or Belek.
-
Booked for June for the two of us £100 dearer this year and the same for me in August and that’s flying from East Midlands , I know perhaps cheaper from other airports but it’s on the doorstep , one good thing the hotel prices haven’t changed.

Why do you want a free child when you are taking your own ;)
-
Well I will just say if we didn’t own there we wouldn’t be going this year.
Far better value out there at the moment. Love the place and it’s our second home but the flight prices are ridiculous.

There is a certain irony when a flag carrier such as THY is more competitive in many cases than a charter/budget airline. Thee's been articles in the press over the past few months about this "increase in capacity to Turkey", so given folks comments I can only assume many of the seats have been sold off as part of package deals resulting in higher prices for the remainder.
On the flip side (for me anyway), £103rtn from Glasgow to Malaga for a week in June, or £88rtn between Edinburgh and Sevilla - all plus bags, but its obvious how our oldest daughter has been out here four times since August and already has another two or three trips booked. Single flights are still from £30 so theoretically she could come out here for the same amount of money she'd spend on a night in town plus taxis. Hard choice, isn't it...

Spent a month traveling round Cuba a few years ago, started off in Havana and worked our way down to Santiago in the south. Lovely country, lovely people, cracking music scene and the best rums in the world all available for pennies. Only downside is that you don't go to Cuba for the food :)

Flights are really expensive compared to previous years, we have booked a package this year with TUI to Calis, £451 each for 2 weeks in July we thought not bad for a package and definitely cheaper than booking flights etc separately as we'd usually do, I think this may be our last year for a while to be honest as all round it is becoming more expensive, we can get to spain cheaper where the alcohol & some meals out are cheaper too aswell as the flights being shorter on the flip side to this we do like the Caribbean and usually go there all inclusive going exploring etc quite cheaply too.. We always get pulled back to Calis/Turkey we do love the people & scenery but not sure we will next year quite sad really.............

I've booked for the end on Feb using my avios miles. One way Manchester to Istanbul via Heathrow 12500 miles plus £35. The early flight gets you into Istanbul in time for the last Turkish airlines flight to Dalaman. Flying back with Thomas cook for £29.99.

We have bitten the bullet and booked to Antalya instead of Dalaman saving almost £300 and much better flight times. Was £800 same dates into Dalaman >:( :o
Just need to sort either a car hire or transfer. Can anybody recommend a reliable car hire from Antalya?
-
Dunna bother with that sue, use ozgur, he's on my friends page. Cheap and 100% reliable .
-
Thanks B, have asked him for a quote as he gets lots of recommendations :) - considering a car as will be hiring one anyway during our stay so may be more cost effective and I believe, a nice drive in summer/daytime.
-
We have signed up for one trip this year but will be having a long hard think about a second.
That having been said, we remain very grateful for the many years of relatively cheap holidays we enjoyed in the early and mid 2000's.
We often wonder if we had not found Calis would we have found another place where we would have made so many truly good friends both local and tourist.
Can you put a price on that - not in my opinion.
-
And a few tw4ts :D

In terms of costs I only need compare the £280 return flights of 2018 with the glorious days of Aegean Airways, where FOUR return flights were precisely £280 on release day. £70 return, they were the days, and not so long ago either.
-
I see tui are having a 50% sale on package deals. A couple years back we went to ol u for 9 nights flying On A DReamliner 2 rooms b&b with aircon and transfers Luggage And Extra Legroom 749£ Its worth keeping an eye out for their codes, some good savings.

Can't remember us booking that good a deal {never got up early enough) but wouldn't have changed booking for anything. :)

May I ask why do you still have that ?.
The reason I ask is that I used to have similar invoices from years ago and i have absolutely no idea why :) :) :)
-
A lot of those sorts of things I have used on websites before so I know I have the image somewhere - but in this case I found the email from my 2008 folder of course :)

Thanks legless, I'll check them out.

Turkish Airlines have a number of flights from Edinburgh to dalaman [ one stop to change aircraft ] bags automatic changed so no lugging the about [ I hold bag each plus a drink and a snack. ]for as low as £195.50 per person in june fo example, some are quite good flight times total travel time each way 6 hrs 15 mins , you need to pick the best shortest time . .
Our june flight from Gatwick with Thomas cook [ the first time in many years with them ].. a 7 5 7 with 235 seats has been sold out since December ...we booked in july with a very good deal with a free crap meal, ..lots cheaper than our last monarch flight , it appears flights are getting full up fast
-
Like a lot of posters I have been looking at other possible locations for 2018. Whilst the airfares are more expensive to Turkey, the accommodation costs per night in Italy and Spain for example were coming up a lot more, balancing things out a bit.
-
And on top of that nearly £20 for a visa per person.. I just can't pay twice as much for flights as hotel.with everything included in the price... Liz... ????????????????
-
And if you have Thomas cooked your holiday they are planning to charge £22 to reserve a sunbed ???? >:(
Anyone up for this?
-
I think the expected increase in tourism is coming from countries other than the U.K. such a shame that flight companies are increasing the price of flights to Dalaman, which will impact on some hotels and businesses BUT other nationalities will go because they won’t be mugged like us.
-
I have been waiting for a thread to come along for a couple of weeks now. I did a speculative check on prices using Sunshine Holidays (as I have done for many years without fault) the results I received were horrendous. In May- June, I would have to travel via Istanbul, meaning a 8hr trip to Dalaman, resulting in losing 2 days of my holiday. In the peak times, you get direct routes, but, you pay through the nose for them. I'm also disappointed that Sunshine Holidays have adopted the 'Lion Air' model of charging for hold luggage (£30 per bag, per flight, max 15Kg,as an added extra) All in all, being a single traveller, Aug 27, 14 nights, including return flights, transfers and hotel, I've been quoted £689.04.

£22 to book a particular sunbed for your entire stay doesn't seem unreasonable. And, it's not compulsory, just a service they're offering.
Only a proportion of a hotel's sunbeds will be bookable, in a bid to ensure there are still enough sunbeds for those who do not want to pay the premium.
The scheme is being trialled in three hotels from the end of next month, and will be available in 30 hotels this summer.
A service to allow customers to select their hotel room before the start of their trip attracted more than 10,000 bookings during a trial phase last year, Thomas Cook said.

:D 8) I somehow knew the Germans would figure in this thread
-
Well in all my years of going "abroad' for me holidays ( nearly 40 years now ) I have never and will not be paying to park my great big a@@e on an old plastic sun bed at any hotel in any location, completely shameful & purely a money making venture...just wen T.Crook had started getting my bookings again they can now F.R.O.
-
"Zis means war!"
Send the bombers over.
Fewer Germans - more sunbeds for British sun lovers.
Sorted.
-
So that's a no Karennina ? 8) :D
-
I'm just back from Tenerife but the sun did not get round the pool area til lunchtime. Watching folks from 7.30 onwards running down to sunbeds to get their favourite spot was laughable. After their breakfast they plonked thereselves down in the shade just waiting for that moment the sun appeared round from the main building. We used the morning to go walking, returned at lunchtime, went to side of hotel where they stored extra sunbeds and plonked it down in the sun. Perfect. Really cannot abide the early morning "sunbed dash" and I have to say it was mostly Brits. Can't blame the Germas on this occasion.
-
We were in Lanzarote this time last year and saw exactly the same kind of things Toky. We used to have a bit of a laugh at everyone hogging their sunbeds in the shade just waiting for the sun to come round to them. We just went out for a walk, in the sun, had some lunch out and got back to the pool for a couple of hours. And yes, a lot were British.
Having said that, we liked where we stayed and would go back again for some winter sun.
-
"Zis means war!"
That German ambassador is right: some of 'em do still live in WWII. Well, you can stand alone Stuart, but if you want to lie on a sunbed, you'll have company.
(Although why anyone would want to lie down on an instrument of medieval torture next to a rectangular pit of water sited round the backside of a hotel I find it difficult to comprehend).
-
I confess - I've never been on a sunbed in my life.
Ginger hair and pinky/grey skin - I reflect the sun.
Might as well try and suntan a mackerel.
